or used for anything for that matter, just the first example i thought of.
do you think players that use it should be fined?
also, if god makes one person or group win over another, does that mean he plays favorites? isn't god supposed to love everyone equally?

You certainly know how to stir things up old lad. Why does anyone pray? Forget the mumbo Jumbo, it's the same as a mantra or focus point. Clears the mind and lets you focus properly on what you want to do. Also try this on; whatever God you believe in has an element of that deity in you as a person, so prayer is partly appealing to that bit in yourself that has a higher and more spiritual purpose than you in the mundane. If your purpose is just then your God will help you achieve as well as you can. If you win it is because you are more able than your opponent at that thing at that time, no more than that. So, No, gods do not play favourites, they enable you to believe in yourself and therfore to achieve what you can. Patently not everyone can win but no-one loses if they trust in themselves and do their best. Losing at one thing and taking it well already means that as a person you have won an understanding of life above that of others. So who is the true winner?

The original question was likely removed by a christian. Yes, if this god influenced a team to win it wuld be an outside influence and therefore cheating.

It could not be proven or testedfor, however.

The fact that prayers do not work, however, is clearly demonstrated by the state of the world today. Parents praying for salvation of children from effects of fire, flood, disease, accident, abuse, as well as for world peace have never been answered - the very futility of it all indicated ineffectiveness.

Actually anywho believes, as is seen in some replies, that god worries about how many sinners are on a team, as opposed to correcting the injustices of the current world, is bordering on the insane. At the very least, delusional, hysterical or a victim of intense propaganda

Prayers does not results in miracles ........ it jst gives a sportsman or any other person a confidence that a divine force will take care of him.........thus creating a positive environment of hope and enthusiasm ...
look at it ........jst a simple logic ...if prayers wud have worked then INDIA and CHINA should be the two top sporting nations owing to their largest populations and thus .... a significant higher no. of prayers ....think abt it :)

Yes, prayer does work!

In the Lord's prayer it says "thy will be done"... so, you can pray all you want (and you should pray! often! even if you do not know what to pray for, go ahead and pray!! * pray to glorify God!) You can pray for your sports team to win, but is it God's plan too? in the end, it is up to God to decide what will happen! God knows what is best for us even though we may not know it! !! We may think we know what is best for us, but we could be wrong!

and what if the other team prays too? what would happen then? doesn't God have more important matters on his mind than which team will win the sport? you know, like curing world hunger? and finding world peace?

Dear, the true pray is to ask God to do the best for you not to ask Him to do you what you think its the better for you.So when i am playing hand ball and pray before my game it doesn't mean that God will let me win and that's it ,no God always arranges for the best and loves all of us equally

God doesn't take sides in sporting events. But he does help the loser accept his loses gracefully; and help the winner accept the win without gloating.

well, prayers will not change the result of the game.....unless u use magic, the wining team is n' will be still the wining team.....it is based on your skills competing with the opponent......n' also , God is listening to your prayers, it only depends on He's answer whether it's a 'yes' or 'no'......

Oh my goodness are you for serious
Pray only according to his will
and that will is, for you to be transformed from being such an ignorant person of the Holy scriptures
