I give my cat a bath a least once a month. I talked to my vet and asked them about giving our cat a bath. my vet said that some cats need to be bathed more often then others espeacialy long haired cats because they can't get up under all that hair on their own and grease builds up. there are some cats that you shouldn't give a bath that much to but thats only if they have dry skin. I live in minnesota so the vet i take my cat to is called Dakota Vet hospital ( live next to north dakota state line). they are also the humane society for that town, so i trust them. i'd say if your cat is an in door/outdoor id give them a bath at least twice a month.

I like the "self cleaning" comment - sounds like an oven lol But it's very true - cats groom themselves. If you keep them indoors (where they belong and will be safe) there's no need to bathe them. If they have fleas, then get them on a flea treatment like Advantage or Frontline. If your cat's coat looks dull it could just need a good combing. Most cats have an undercoat - even shorthaired cats - and should be combed regularly to remove the dead hairs. A steel comb works great for this - much moreso than a brush. Poor nutrition can make a cat's coat look dull as well. And if the coat is really unkempt and the cat isn't grooming itself please get it to a vet to be checked out.
And to answer your question - I have three cats and two of them get baths every month or so but only because they're show cats and you want them spanking clean for the judges and super soft to the touch. My third cat never gets bathed. In fact, I think she'd kill me if I tried lol

Not a great idea unless your cat is covered with something toxic, like machine grease. The cats will hate it, you will hate it, and the effects won't last long. If you use a product like Advantage or Revolution, fleas will not be a problem so there isn't really a reason to bathe cats. If the fur is dull and dusty, use a very fine toothed comb to grooms your cat. Buy it at a pet shop and train your cat to accept it by mixing combing with treats and petting. If your cat really sheds a LOT, then get one of those horse grooming tools that removes "shed" from the coat. http://www.horse.com/products/gift-0__sku-BJH11.html

If my cats go outside and roll around in the dirt pit that is called my yard (construction site) then I'll bath them when they're covered in dust and need one - they tend to get like this every few months.. I also have the cat shampoo on hand which makes them smell lovely but they seem to do a pretty good job of cleaning themselves every other day!!

Yes, only a couple a year. Cats, for the most part, are very clean animals.

I give my cat a bath every few weeks. I purchased cat shampoo that makes her soft and smell good. She hates the bath, but I think it helps her shed less.

I would recommend buying Cat Grooming wipes that will clean their coat without all the water! You can find them in the pet section They seem to like them better..

No, I wouldn't wash my cat unless I had torment in mind.
They are self cleansing (although if you saw how much dirt and fur my cat leaves on my kitchen bench you would find it hard to believe).
