it means that we sometimes are gifted with those families or relatives with whom we don't get along with .........
or say those who are mean or cruel to us but we can't help it as we don't chose our families , do we?
now friends are those whom we chose, whom we like
so this quote means that god sent us friends in order to correct those mistakes while he was making families

It means that friends are what god gives us because of everything we have gone through and all the relationships that were terrible. Friends are what god gives us for the bad things in our life.
