I realize it has to do with being a Jehovah's Witness, but doesn't that sound frightening to people? Being constantly watched. I mean obviously God/ Jesus Christ will and can do that on His own. I'm just curious- searching for what religion works best with how I currently believe or what appeals the most to my spiritual being/ point of view/ self. I am attempting to be open to more religions but I find the Watchtower title to be intimidating.

The founder of the Jehovah's Witnesses found the lord Jesus Christ, and repented of his formation of that false religion.

LOL It is not nearly that intimidating to those of us who understand and love it. The Watchtower Society watches the world--it stays awake and watches for danger so it can warn the flock of God's people. It is a blessing for us and it brings us the spiritual food from the faithful and discreet slave that Jesus talked about in the book of Matthew. Keep reading your Bible and searching for truth. Your quest is an honorable one with many blessings in store.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is simply the legal tool that Jehovah's Witnesses use to print Bibles and Bible literature.

The term "Watchtower" is not meant to be intimidating. They are not watching people. Rather, the term "Watchtower" is explained in the January 1, 2008 edition of the magazine called "The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom". Here's what it says:

"Just as watchtowers in ancient times enabled a person to observe developments from afar, so this magazine shows us the significance of world events in the light of Bible prophecies. It comforts people with the good news that God's Kingdom, which is a real government in heaven, will soon bring an end to all wickedness and transform the earth into a paradise." (page 2)

Hence, the term "Watchtower" is not used in the sense of watching people. Rather, it is used in the sense that Jehovah's Witnesses keep close eye on the events in the world and comparing these events to what the Bible says about the last days. Jesus repeatedly told his disciples to "keep on the watch". (Matthew 24:42; 24:13) That's the purpose of the Watchtower Bible Society and it's Bible-based publications.

There are many misunderstandings about Jehovah's Witnesses. I truly recommend requesting a copy of the January 1, 2008 edition of "The Watchtower" from your local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses (they will also be offering this magazine to the public in the month of January). This whole edition speaks about God's Kingdom and gives insight into the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses concerning it. It is offered free of charge, though small donations are accepted if you wish to give one. Nonetheless, you may find the magazine very interesting and it may even help you in your search for God.

LOL!!!

The Watchtower does not watch us- it watches world events and sounds a warning, just like a watchman on a tower would see danger from afar off and warns the people. You'd want an alert watchman right? Same thing.

Much of what is happening in the world today was foretold in the Bible, so the Watchtower brings such events to everyone's attention and brings Bible-based hope for the future to all who will listen.

The Society is a legal cooperation used by Jehovah's Witnesses to publish their Bibles and Bible-based literature in hundreds of languages and has them distributed all over the world.

In the Bible, a watchtower is a place of lookout or post of observation. It is often constructed on a city wall. Some watchtowers were constructed in wilderness areas or on frontiers. Their principal use was for military purposes & to protect a city or a boundary. Some were also built for shepherds and farmers in isolated areas to use as places of refuge, & these enabled a watchman to warn of marauders, so that flocks and ripening crops in the area might be protected. --2Ch 20:24; Isa 21:8; 32:14.

The Watchtower Society's purpose is to warn people of the current dangers to their spirituality, & to guide them to the God's Word for true spiritual guidance... The name, "Watchtower Society" was taken as the legal name for this organisation.

Are watchtowers used to attack anyone?

Historically, watchtowers have always had a defensive role in recognizing dangers which are yet afar off, and warning the peaceful inhabitants of a peaceful city.

All along the Watchtower, princes kept the view while the women all came and went, barefoot servants too.

The Watch Tower society is the governing body, which is a group of anointed followers. The anointed followers make up the Faithful and Discreet Slave (or Faithful and Wise Servant).

Matthew 24:45
"Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?"

As you can see, the Faithful and Discreet slave is suppose to keep watch over "his domestics".

When the first Christian congregation was formed, Paul was of the governing body.

Lets look at Paul's words and which authority he had over the congregation.

Hebrews 13:17
17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.

1 Thessalonians
Finally, brothers, we request YOU and exhort YOU by the Lord Jesus, just as YOU received [the instruction] from us on how YOU ought to walk and please God 2 For YOU know the orders we gave YOU through the Lord Jesus. But we exhort YOU, brothers, to go on doing it in fuller measure, 11 and to make it YOUR aim to live quietly and to mind YOUR own business and work with YOUR hands, just as we ordered YOU; 12 Now we request YOU, brothers, to have regard for those who are working hard among YOU and presiding over YOU in [the] Lord and admonishing YOU; 13 and to give them more than extraordinary consideration in love because of their work. 2 Thess 3:4 Moreover, we have confidence in [the] Lord regarding YOU, that YOU are doing and will go on doing the things we order. 6 Now we are giving YOU orders, brothers, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to withdraw from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the tradition YOU received from us. 7 For YOU yourselves know the way YOU ought to imitate us, 10 In fact, also, when we were with YOU, we used to give YOU this order: "If anyone does not want to work, neither let him eat." 14 But if anyone is not obedient to our word through this letter, keep this one marked, stop associating with him, that he may become ashamed.

Dont worry about being intimidated by a picture of being watched....be more worried about a magazine that toutes itself as "Prophet"....be more worried about a magazine that speaks with authority and selects numerous dates for Jesus' return...(obvious...their track record is still zero)
