I found myself in the same situation a while back... I'm paying my way through college, (I'm a freshman too) and I had to think to myself: what is more important? My relationship or my career? Being in a relationship was just taking too much time! I have school, homework, a job, and bills to worry about. It was too stressful to have to worry about another person on top of that.

I chose my career. At least temporarily, I chose myself instead of the other person, and you know what? I think it's okay. Actually, I KNOW it's okay. Think about it - this is one of the few times in your life where you're going to have that option, and be able to choose it WITHOUT feeling guilty.

I agree with you - the first year of college is the hardest. Not in terms of coursework, but just in terms of CHANGE. There's so much to do, to get used to, that sometimes the stress of a relationship is just too much. Don't let anyone make you feel "heartless" or like "a grinch" for choosing yourself first - you're not. You're human, you're stressed, and the right choice is whatever feels right to you. Before deciding anything, you have to set your priorities... but honestly, I think that someone who genuinely cares about you should respect (not like, but respect) your decision.

:)

XO, Pam

The first year of College is just the start....It's hard to make it through 4 years with a boyfriend/girlfriend. Secondly your education is the most important thing for you. If you are finding it too challenging while in a relationship you need to get out of the relationship.

Relationships are very important at this time of the year. Believe me, your significant other is feeling very neglected, or they have found someone else to enjoy the holidays with.

I think school is important, but don't throw away a good thing if you have it. He should be supportive of it and if he is don't screw him over.
