The PowerShot A80 is a digital camera, so it won't be able to shoot infrared film because it's not a film camera.

For shooting infrared, you need a few items:
1) a camera with sensitivity in the infrared range of the spectrum (either via a sensor for a digital camera or infrared film for a film camera).

2) a filter to block out visible light and only let through infrared wavelengths.

3) some way to mount the filter onto your camera lens.

In the case of the A80, some infrared (called IR for short) is blocked by filters in-camera, but the A80 is still a little sensitive to IR. However, you'll have fairly long exposure times (like in the range of a few seconds or longer). This means you'll need a tripod.

You'll also need to get the lens mount adapter (the ring around your A80 lens comes off allowing you to add a Canon adapter. You can then screw a filter onto that.

You'll need an IR filter (see eBay) in the right filter diameter (see the Canon adapter for the right size of diameter).

Or you can just buy a camera that has already been converted. See here for example:

Visit shutterbug.com and type 'digital infrared' in the Search box. You'll find several articles of interest and resource material to help you with this.
