I got a good sized tattoo right above the outside of my left ankle on Thursday... I'm taking care of it the way I should, and it looks fine and is starting to scab, but still hurts like hell. It's still super tender to the touch and when my pants hit it, it kills... I have three other tattoos that didn't seem to do this, but they are in spots that don't get a lot of movement. The artist told me that being on my feet a lot may cause it to swell. But by a few days later with my other tats, the pain was gone. Is it just cause of the placement of it? I'd call him, but I doubt he'll be tattooing on Christmas Eve or Christmas... Haha.

it is because of the location. your lower legs get less circulation than the rest of your body and it will generally take a few days longer to heal, also it's just a tender spot in general. as long as you are taking care of it you should be fine, just don't compare it to the rest of your tattoos because it will likely take a few days longer to reach the healing milestones.

Yeah, it will take a while to stop hurting in that area of the body. I have a bunch of friends who have and own tattoo studios and they all say the same thing. Just keep putting moisturizer on it and it will eventually heal.

I think it just depends on the person and the location. My best friend and I both got tattoos on our ankles and my never hurt (aside from during the procedure) and hers hurt for about a week.
