Hypothetically YES.
I have known cats to obey and do what they are told because
they are trained from the beginning.
I would still want my dogs they did come to my home, trying to take over the place, until I trained them.
Animals are always trainable.

That's a good one.
OK. The wife has two Pygmy Goats. I have no idea why. They don't obey. They're not cuddly. They just eat. And poop.
They're kinda cute but I don't really get it. Those animals could never really be my friend. They are here because the wife likes them and they sometimes amuse my Cattledog.
I'm a pretty slack pack leader. I don't expect ironclad instant obedience and fancy tricks. There are a few commands I insist on for safety and good manners but that's about it. They are my companions.
I would say "no." If they didn't obey "AT ALL" I don't think I would enjoy them much. A totally out of control dog is a PITA and dangerous.
Having said that, I would describe my dogs' obedience as "so-so." And I love the heck out of 'em. :-)

Dogs have so much love in their hearts - that is the essence of the dog. They are innately willing to please. I think that is what differentiates them from cats, not the ability to follow authority. Dogs greet you with a big smile and a wagging tail, they cuddle you when you are sad and they are practically head over heels just to go for a walk with you. Cats, at the most, will look around when you enter a room and if you showed them a leash they'd probably think you were nuts. If a dog was like that - if a dog couldn't care less about my presence and wouldn't want anything to do with me besides a brief cuddle and a food source - then no I wouldn't want a dog as a pet.

My dogs obey sometimes and some days I come home to my kitchen chair being destroyed. I love them anyway. They might destroy things on occasion and not always listen but they will always love me. It is unconditional affection that I like most in dogs and the joy they get out a simple kind word. By the way I love my cats also.

My dogs are my family. They are unruly beasts and only do what I say sometimes.
They all will make pests of them selfs when guests come to the house. They want to get petted from everyone and will jump on them to get what they want.
Did I get mad at them when I found a remote or phone chewed up when they were puppies? Thank god they grew out of it, or maybe I trained them it was not the thing to do. The one I got mad at was my grandson for not putting things up.
The only way I would not want them is if they were mean to anyone. Turns out my dogs love everyone. And guess what? Two of them are killer Pit Bulls. What a joke, the sweetest dogs in the world.
Being an old retired, widowed guy, who do i share my bed with? You got it, my four dogs.
Do I love my unruly, disobedient dogs? You bet.

All dogs have their own personality, as do cats. I used to have a cat that fetched, sat on command, sat up and growled at the door. I currently have a dog who occasionally ignores me, gets upset and sits with her back to me and sleeps on top of the heater vent. You can't judge a dog by the fact that he is a dog or a cat just by being a cat. They are all different just as we are all different.

You miss the meaning of "Best Friend". Dogs and cats choose who they obey, not just any authority person.

If they were more like cats, the whole essence of what makes a dog a dog would be gone and they wouldn't be man's best friend anymore. What makes a dog so great is their willingness to please and their desire to be with their master. With that gone, they'd just be an animal that hangs out in your house.

Siberian Huskies are cats in dog suits. We have 4 of them.
Who wants a suck-up dog, anyway?
And you can train cats.

Look, any pet that are treated well will respond to us directively. We gain their trust and confidence by doing so. Just let us make them feel loved and stress our authority, this will give us a certain good relationship with our pet.
