Assume that it was a war like Vietnam War which you had no choice whether to participate.

The Bible does not say killing is wrong, it says Murder is wrong.

Much killing took place in the bible, at God's command.

Way too wide open- first off, your feelings about killing would preempt anything else. If you believe there are situations in which killing is acceptable, then you go to the next step. Are you willing to accept you may have to kill in self-defense? Then there is the aggressive component: Do you believe you can act on the orders of others to kill someone? You will know nothing about them, other than they are in the way of your commander's goals. Are you able to support the ideals of your leader who has decided why you are going to war? These are all questions each person must ask themselves, and there is no 'right' answer.

Hmm.

In the war between India and Pakistan in 1971, which resulted in the freedom of Bangladesh, the most decorated Indian soldier was a Muslim. I guess he chose his country over faith.

And the Indian's top commander was not a Hindu, as I recall.

I don't think my religion would play too much of a factor, has to be the overall purpose.

Vietnam you did have a choice......even if you were drafted.....one choice had legal consequences though.

Anyways, i think it depends on what your definition of patriotism is. If its blindly following what the leaders say, or upholding what the country stands for.

Assuming is the blindly following your leaders....I don't really have much patriotism. I just don't see why i'm suppose to love my country because my parents decided to live here when i was born. And if they had decided to live somewhere else, i'm suppose to love that country.

Sorta like school spirit in highschool. I never had it. Just never understood it. No one chose to go to that highschool.....it was the town their parents chose to live in (assuming public school).

I just don't think i'm any better than someone because i was born in one country and they were born somewhere else. My life isn't worth more than theirs.

So yeah, its the cause for me. Not just a blind following.

If our country was run fairly, honestly and transparently by competent leaders, passed only laws based on reason, and refused to initiate force except in self-defense, then anyone attacking us would have to be insane and by all rights we should destroy them utterly. But since it's run by corrupt leaders, chosen by religious morons, based on favors and blackmail, and full of secrets, lies and manipulations, it's no wonder inside and out people are clamoring to threaten us and attack us. A lot of people have the right to recompense, apologies, and permanent changes. Our lives are threatened and lost every day because of religious faith and its necessary adjunct: ignorance.

I can think of no reason why my country should be at war and I certainly wouldn't participate in any it went into. And not for any religious reasons either.

If the war was for the right reasons (such as for defence) then it wouldn't be against my religious convictions. If I didn't think it was for the right reasons and I was being drafted, I guess it would depend on the consequences of refusing. I'd consider risking jail for my convinctions, but not execution, for example.

The place where you live comes first

where ever you go, ( let you be Muslim, Hindu, Christian, etc)
you will be identified only with your country of origin and not with your religion.

You can change your beliefs and can revert to Islam / convert to other religions

You can also migrate to other country and become a citizen of that country

But you can never change your origination.

So, my suggestion is only Patriotism.
