Another "media" non-story that was retracted very quietly.

Not an "act of agression" per se. More like sending the message that Russian power is not to be discounted, especially on "their" side of the Arctic.
This was more for internal political consumption-Putin making a statement that under his leadership Russia is again a major player on the world stage. Note that this happened during the last ice free part of the year before their parlementary elections.
Remember, any and all public actions any nation takes must be considered in context. Take nothing at face value.

Its nothing, other eroupean countries, canada, and the us are all up in there. What you should be thinking about is the military bases that are being planned in that area. And also in awhile theres gonna be a new shipping route when it melts a bit. But canada doesn't wanna share that shipping route because it is in their power.

The ice will shift in a few months and it will be gone. They can bluster all they want; they have little military power to back it up with their cannon-fodder army and tube-using aircraft.

It didn't happen. It was a media hoax. Wouldn't have meant anything if they had done it anyhow.
