I wish we were greener, actually. That reputation does precede us, but the fact is that, to this day, people use coal ovens to heat their homes, and emissions are not a factor anybody checks on cars.
In my opinion, NZ is a country which knows it's high time to do some very green things, and we seem to be good at making one hell of a racket about it, so that the outside world thinks "whoa, these guys are at it!" - but are we really? The kinds of issues whose importance we begin to acknowledge here have resulted in policy elsewhere 30 years ago already. We are just late comers to that field.

No more than the average, Northern European country, really. If you consider places like France, Denmark, Holland, or the UK leftist, then, yes, by all means, we probably are.

New Zealand has a Labour Government but like Australia it is centrist rather than left wing, unfortunately. The Green party has some prominence in NZ, just as it has in Australia, but it has no power yet.

yea,we have a leftist government at the moment.But next election it will propably change to a right wing.
we will always be a green country,focusing on our enviroment and how to keep it beautiful,we have to,its a big reason tourist come here.
