The incision and the hair growing back, will often itch as it is healing and they will lick at it often. This can cause an irritation around that area. It shouldn't be infection with the antibiotics, but no one antibiotic covers all types of infection. To be on the safe side, contact your nearest emergency vet asap. They may be able to advise you on the phone, or see if your vet has an answering service. In the meantime, keep up with the post-surgery meds, do not give over the counter or human meds unless advised by a vet, and if your dog will tolerate it you could hold warm compresses on the area. Best wishes and happy holidays

Sounds like she has an infection. I've had occasional foster dog who just got spayed or neutered get the surgical site infected, especially if they continually lick or rub on it. A hot blotchy area is pretty telltale. I'd call an emergency vet in your area and ask them if you should bring her in. A shot of antibiotics will likely put things right (this is what the shelter vet has done for my fosters if they get theirs infected). In the mean time, ask around friends and neighbors if anyone has an e-collar (an Elizabethean collar). The link below will show you how to make one out of household items if no one has one. This will keep her from licking it as much. Apply a bit of triple antibiotic (like Neosporin) 3-4 times a day.

When my American Pit Bull Terrier got spayed she had the same thing happen to her. It ended up being an allergic reaction to the stitches they used. I wouldn't be too concerned. You can call a vet right now, they are like doctors and someone is always on call. Try calling an Animal Emergency Hospital. My dog's finally healed up when the stitches dissolved, however, her scar is worse than normal!

Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

Your vet should have an emergency number you can reach him at. it sounds like she is having a localized reaction to the sutures. Your vet may take them out early if there are no signs of infection. If your dog is shivering and has signs of an infection, she needs to get to a vet right away.

It is common for them to develop a suture reaction--redness around the sutures--it is the body's response to a foreign material in the skin. A little Neosporin on the red area may give some relief. It is just time for the sutures to come out and they are irritating. Try to keep her from licking at them as that will make it worse.

Leave her be, have u never had a shaving rash? she is healing fine, the vet is happy with her, thats what dogs do, heal themselves with their own saliva. Had mine spayed a year ago, same thing happened, it cleared up on its own without a problem.
