if you live in an area where you have to have one on it you,ll have to replace it other than that you can have a strait piece of pipe put on it if there's no law against it where you live at,some states wont allow this though, you need to check with your states laws on this any muffler shop can do either one, they can install new converter for about 200 bucks or a strait piece of pipe for about 45 bucks all of this will depend on the state you live in though, and the laws, good luck and merry x-mas. PS the dodge mechanic knows he owns one that runs fine with a test pipe, its best to replace it that's up to you.

Take it to a shop. They will cut out the old one and replace with a shiny new one. If you're not a welder, then have a shop do it.

unless you come from a state that requires emission test, you can have you local muffeler shop remove it completely. you might have the check engine light come on, but disregard it. you should actually see increases in torque due to the decrease in exhaust restriction. it should also sound a little better with a minimal loss of MPG's (1-2mpg). if you have emission tests, pay the $100 and get a new one from AAMCO.

Put a new one in, the straight pipe will work, but at the risk of being call a tree hugger, put a new cc in and do your part for the environment.

ur truck has an O2 sensor on the cat
the only reason that O2 sensor is there is to make sure you didn't remove, or punch out ur cat
ha ha ha
there is NO way you can bypass or fool it
( too bad a dodge certified mechanic didn't know that)
I wouldn't want him working on my truck
ha ha ha

What's wrong with it? Put a new catalytic convertor on it if you need one.,

The only legal way to fix a bad catalytic converter is to replace it with a new one. And they aren't cheap.
