my daughter was getting a book from her bookshelf to read for bed and left the door open. the dog slipped out and before we could catch her, she snagged the brownie off of santa's plate. the chocolate chip cookies were still there, but the 2 inch square peanut butter chocolate brownie was gone, and she was licking her lips. is she going to be ok? was it enough to seriously hurt her? she's asleep in my bed right now. she seems to be ok, for now. i'm going to stay up for a while and keep an eye on her. i'm just worried. thanks.

Honestly, you have little to worry about. A few months ago my dog ate an entire bar of very dark (85% cocoa) chocolate and just got sick. She's much smaller than a beagle as well. Considering the amount your dog had and since it wasn't pure chocolate, the most you'll have to worry about is some probably vomiting. Don't fret too much, just have her drink some water and let her sleep.

I read a book on this. Chocolate, Onions, and grapes are poisonous to dogs. Although, That much chocolate that you're stating is not deadly. But your dog will just had a upset stomach or vomit a little, otherwise your dog will be fine. Make sure you set out some cold refreshing water for your beagle to lap it will help the stomach ;)

The vet doesn't need too be involved unless it gets advanced. Just take her to the vet if she acts diffrent in personality or in unease. You don't have to take her too the vet for one small brownie your stating. and the Big $ will come in just for them to say your dogs fine and you dog will probably just need some water & rest or hydrogenated water.

Coca contains a chemical which dogs are unable to cope with. It can be poisionus if they eat enough of it leading to heart and kidney problems. However I dont think there is a dog alive who hasnt got hold of some chocolate at some point in its life! A small brownie with low coca content eaten once should have no adverse effects on her. At worst she might have a little indigestion but its nothing to worry about! If she does get sick the link below is Vets advice on what to do next. Hope this helps!

Dont worry!

Dont worry... she'll be fine. Chocolate only effects dogs in large amounts. It would take a lot more then a 2 inch brownie to hurt a dog... Our little dauchund ate a bigger brownie and nother happened.

She'll be fine. You should just be careful in the future about chocolate and the dog. The bakers chocolate is the worst, but if a dog eats enough chocolate, they can have problems. She might throw up, she might have diarrhea, odds are pretty good that she'll do neither..

Poison by chocolate can occur quickly if your dog had a large amount, but sometimes even small amounts will show signs of poisoning within a few short hours. Symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea, restlessness and hyperactivity, and he or she might even go to you for help. Symptoms will progressively get worse from restlessness to arrhythmia and other muscle twitching. Frequent urination is common, a direct side affect of the toxin in chocolate.

my dog is a miniature pincher and ate a whole box of pure chocolate cupcakes, which was 8. he got really fat and pooped a lot but is still totally fine, and he was 13 when he did it, now hes 14. grapes are even worst than chocolate, so keep those away from him, same with cheese

chocolate is poison to dogs -

I do not know what the 'over' amount is -

may need to call an emergency Vet - of course, they will say,
bring your dog in ($ure they will!)

but they might give you free advice over the phone

My german shepherd ate a large bar of chocolate and she was fine, I wouldn't be worried, and I know you love your dog.
