Take her to the vet and have her spade before she brings any more of the little critters into the world.

females can go into heat the first time usually anywhere between 6-9 months. I have seen it as early as 5 months though. Cats aren't like dogs. Cats can go in and out of heat every several days, back and forth, for a period of weeks, or until they are spayed or pregnant. Contact your vet. They both need altered before you have kittens with kittens. Many vets do prefer not to do the females when they are in heat. If this is the case, ask the vet how much notice you need to give to get her in for the surgery. That way as soon as she is out of heat you can call and get her in straight away. Some vets will do it, often with an additional charge while they're in heat. This is because the uterus is engorged with blood and there is an increased risk for bleeding and the surgery takes longer. Best to get the male fixed ASAP. There is no sure fire way to prevent an accidental breeding if both pets are in the same household. And, if the male is the same age as the female in heat, he could start spraying and marking everything, if he hasn't already. Best wishes.

Some females go into heat as early as 4 months, but 6 is more likely.

Heat stays for a week, usually stops for 3 days then starts up again--the hormone shift of in/out/in/out/in is awful for their bodies, they need to be spayed. Your male needs to be neutered too--sometimes you can get a discount by having multiple cats done at the same time. Considering you've got an in heat cat in your place, even separating them by room may get the male cat spraying. Females that are immensely frustrated will spray as well. I don't envy you your situation.

A kitten can come into Heat at only around 6 months of age. The SPCA spays/neuters at a very reasonable cost. Call & tell them the situation & see if you can get her in to be fixed a.s.a.p; then get the ole boy fixed, too, so he won't be spraying your house & smelling it up. This will also save you from being ran over with a bunch of cats.

Whoops! I see kittens in your future. Get the male fixed ASAP and talk to the vet about scheduling the female for her surgery. Vets prefer not to do it when they are in heat so he should go first.
