Looks like around $30k. Hardly impressive for a 2-seater with a 120 mile range and a 4 to 6 hour recharge cycle. My 150 mile commute kills that idea!

I'd also be VERY curious to see how much running the AC during SoCal's famously hot summers would eat into the total range, especially as your head east of LA into the deserts. The solar panels do little more than power a fan to cycle cooler ambient air through the car while it's parked. That's worth something, to be sure, but they won't provide all of the power needed during the summer and are not nearly large enough to provide significant current to charge the batteries at anything more than a trickle-charge rate.

It may have some value as an urban commuter but as a general replacement for an internal combustion powered long-haul cruiser it falls flat.

Actually it's the Aptera typ-1h (plug-in hybrid version) that will cost approximately $30,000. The typ-1e (purely electric version) will cost approximately $26,900.

They're only selling the cars in California at first though.

$30k

What I don't understand is why they didn't use the solar panels to charge the battery and extend the 120-mile range of the car, instead of using the power from the panels to run a fan when it's parked??
