I am 21, 5'9" and 145 lbs. I'm not entirely happy with my weight. The healthy weight range for my height is anywhere between 130 to 160 lbs. I would like to go down to 130 to 135 lbs.

I do NOT want to diet, and I am not going to starve myself.

So will drinking green tea, water, cutting back on sugar, junk food, pop, etc and walking help me drop the pounds?

No, what I mean by not dieting is not starving myself or going on ridiculous diets like the Atkins diet and stuff.

What I'm talking about is cutting back on the stuff I don't need and eating healthier

You don't want to diet, so you plan on dieting? That's what you've described as your solution, and yes, it will help.

Absolutely. I am a certified fitness coach and that is how I lost over 40 pounds about 10 years ago and kept it off. I also started walking 3-4 times a week. I ate what I wanted but less than I had before. The bottom line is to eat fewer calories than you burn. Cutting out sugar, junk food (which is very high in fat), and pop will do the trick. Water and green tea are good for you but won't help that much in weight loss. Eat less, exercise more. Good luck.

Mostly overweight people deal with problems in proportions. They over-fill their plates, or eat when their bodies aren't signaling to them that they're hungry.

One way is to simply pay attention to when you're full. Don't stuff yourself (I have a problem with that, especially with cobbler... hahaha)

The best and simplest advice I can give you is this:
Eat an apple and drink 8 oz of water 45 minutes before dinner. It should fill you up a little and you won't eat quite as much. Don't deprive yourself, because it leads to binges! You can still eat sugar & junk foods, just be reasonable & try to eat them in moderation. Order a small fries instead of large, or whatever the choice is.

Take a brisk 30 minute walk when it's sunny outside, and listen to some good music. It'll lift your spirits, and the vitamin D is good for you!

Park at the farthest parking spot you can find, and take the stairs instead of elevators. Burning calories isn't too hard when you don't take shortcuts!

Ps. I've stopped putting cheese on my sandwiches... I can't even taste the difference and it saves about 100 calories per slice! (That's 20 minutes on an elliptical!)

Also, asking for simple lowfat alternatives can be just as satisfying. For example, when I go to starbucks I order a "Caramel Light" Frapp instead of the normal Carmel. They use a different syrup. It tastes exactly the same, and cuts my calories in half!

Although I just mentioned calories a lot, it's not worth counting them, for me anyway. It's a waste of time and it's depressing. All you have to do is make simple adjustments.

It will help of course, but that is not your ideal weight. The weight you should be is- 145. If you are worried about a few extra pounds then do the work out, avoid things you know are bad for you and try to tone up the problem areas instead of just losing weight. Toning up will help a great deal more than you realize and you will feel better about yourself. Of course muscle weighs more than fat. You will be able to tell by the way your clothes fit. 130-135 is too skinny for your height.

Absolutely. I lost a lot of weight by cutting out sugar/junk, and sticking to 3 healthy meals and 2 snacks per day

So you are dropping junk food, which means you will be eating more healthy food, and walking - yes, this will drop the weight, as long as you stick with it and make sure you're walking is optimal (at least 30 minutes at your target heart rate).

Yes, that will help... IF YOU CAN STICK TO IT!
My mom hasn't had pop or anything like that in a few months, and she's lost 5 pounds. Not a whole lot, but it's better than gaining weight!!

that will help - why not do this?

check to see how many calories it takes to maintain your current weight (Mayo Clinic Calorie counter provided)

now reduce those calories by just 15% - not really a diet - just a reduction - and you should drop 1-2 lbs a week.

And all for just $19.95 + shipping and handling
(just kidding!)((didya smile?))

have a great 2008 - and a very Merry Christmas

No.
In fact, the world, in a way, is lying to you.
See, take it from me--it's not what you eat, it's how you eat it, when, and how much.
Limit yourself. Don't starve yourself. Don't overeat. If you're just a little hungry, leave it that way. Your stomach will shrink. The process will go faster.
Of course, green tea and water are good for your waste system, wash away that bad stuff.
Good luck! :)

That is a good start, you will have to add fruits and veggies in your diet(diet is not a bad word, everyone is has a diet, that what we eat) as well. Water is important as well at least 8 glasses of it.
