Just curious, what is it called when you run from the police...?

Let's say this was the situation:

Walking on the street.. Cops coming lights on or not signal you over to talk to you and you just run off..

Any broken law? Which?

Fleeing, Attempting to Elude, Obstruction of justice

any of these can be defined as "running", and yes, it is breaking a law.

Evading Arrest, is jst for starters. If you're on foot that's all they're going to charger you with. If you're in car, they can also charge you with, wreckless driving, endangering others and speeding. So bottom line, don't run from the police. If you do, do it on foot or else you will end up on Scariest Police Chases 5 or on Fox's Cops!

Fleeing and elluding the police. If they actually were talking with you at the time you ran or drove off (i mean they had you pulled over and were dealing with you) then resisting arrest could be added.

They can also tack on obstructing police and anything else they can think of

it depends on what the initial suspicion is. If the police want to question but not arrest you and you begin to run then you are not resisting arrest, but the police can chase you down and detain you as appropriate to question you and address any suspicions that may have arisen while the chase took place. If they want to arrest you, you are resisting arrest.

If you are told you are under arrest, then run, it is Resisting Arrest.

If you run before you are advised you are under arrest, it is Obstructing.

If you get in a car and run, it is Fleeing.
