If the Sabbath was set aside by God as a day of rest, why do many Christians go out to eat and make someone work to prepare their meal? Isn't this hypocritical, and wouldn't it be better for Christians to do things together with their personal or Church families instead?

I am a Christian and I worked as a waitress and another waitress always insisted that she couldn't work on Sundays because she had church. So the managers would always have to ask for other people to work. I wanted to go to church, but I also felt an obligation to the people I worked with, so I often ended up having to work on Sunday.

Additionally, those same people who couldn't work alongside me, because they had church would then come in immediately after church in droves, and be impatient, demanding and discourteous. And additionally, many would not tip for the service, and some would not tip and left a tract instead. Sunday is typically considered a 'day of rest' or the Lord's Day by Christians, but so many times I was surprised by the lack of godliness in those who had just supposedly left the presence of God.

Excellent point! I am impressed! Most people don't think of these things.

What we do most of the time is to put an entire meal in the slow cooker--meat, veggies, seasonings--and this is done and ready to serve after sunday service!

On occasion we do eat out and I always leave a huge tip to our wait-staff and try to remember that the lady waiting on us will probably make enough money on sunday to feed her family for a whole week.

I remember a time when no one was open for business on sunday. Times do change...but God doesn't...Blessings!

"Why do Christians go out to eat on the Sabbath/Sunday?"

Because they are hungry. Besides, the real sabbath day is Saturday.

"and wouldn't it be better for Christians to do things together with their personal or Church families instead?"

How are we to reflect a Christ like life to the world if we just keep to ourselves? And I don't think that it is a sin anymore to work on the sabbath. We are no longer living under the law. We are living under grace. But there is nothing wrong with showing respect to the Lord by abiding by the sabbath. Even Jesus said remember the sabbath. That sabbath is Saturday not Sunday. So maybe you shouldn't be so harsh on the Christians for going to a restaurant after church. The sabbath was yesterday.

Two things:

1. The sabbath was required only of Israel through the old covenant. Christians were never a party to that covenant.

2. Sunday is never identified in Scripture as being a required day of rest for Christians. Neither is the sabbath.

People who "keep" either day are making up their own religion at the expense of faith.

Saturday is the Sabbath not Sunday and it is a Jewish law that Christian's do not have to follow. We are not under the old law. Jesus healed and helped others on the Sabbath and the Pharisees tried to rebuke him for it. You can keep the Sabbath day holy if you want it is always good to do but it is no longer a requirement. You also can keep a day holy and still do work you do not have to rest to keep a day holy.

First of all, why does it matter to you if Christians go out to eat on Sundays?? Second, most Christians enjoy going out just like everyone else. It is a day of rest and worship for us so many do not want to be slaving over a hot stove to get dinner cooked. Also, church is two times on Sundays so it gives us more time to be with family and not spending it cooking. Thirdly, you are assuming all Christians go out on Sundays! I very rarely do!

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Christ became our Sabbath, our rest. WE don't worship a "day" of the week.

People eat 7 days a week, not just Sundays, so why should it matter to you if they choose to eat out? The people that work in these restaurants could not feed their family if it were not for the people that eat out. It is a day of rest, who's to say they are not relaxing while they eat?

Did you know the Sabbath is really Saturday, and that the Old Testament law was voided by Jesus, like when He healed on the Sabbath and let the disciples pick and eat grain on the Sabbath?

Whether or not to observe these things to honor God is entirely up to the individual and to the individual's conscience.
