I want to get my hair dyed black and/or pink, but I'm on the swim team. The last time I dyed my hair, it was with L'Oreal out-in-a-week stuff, and I wore a cap, and it was alright, but I want to get my hair dyed professionally at the salon. Will the chlorine and other chemicals in the pool mess up or damage the dye?

Yes, chlorine will effect the color, but you can minimize damage by rinsing your hair with non-chlorinated water as soon as you get out of the pool. It also helps if you wet your hair with non-chlorinated water before you get into the pool, because since your hair strands are filled with clean water, there isn't much room for the chlorinated water to seep in.

Yes chlorine mess's up dyed hair. I was also on my high school swim team and my hair became very damaged because of the chemicals mixing with the dye. If you still want to do it, make sure your hairstylist knows and ask them if they can recommend any products to protect your hair. Another trick is to wet it with tap water before going into the pool. That way the pores of your hair are plugged and it wont become as damaged. But like I said, def ask your stylest for product suggestions.

dont get it blonde because the chlorine will turn ur hair green. lol i know XD. and if u dye it black, make sure u rinse it with cold water before getting into the pool that way ur hair will soak up the cold water and not the chlorine and also, make sure u wear a swim cap just incase. im not sure about pink. wear a cap no matter what though

it will turn it green or fade it. I would NOT recommend dying it until you finish with swim team, or wear a cap as much as possible.

There are special shampoos and conditioners to help prevent discoloration and don't forget the swim cap too.

I always just rinse mine out after I swim and don't have any problems with my hair coloring. Good luck!
