For sure you can! You'd just have to train like crazy. It all depends on how badly you want to be a ninja. If it's something you want to do as a pastime or hobby, you can forget it. If you are completely devoted to being a ninja, then stop typing, sell your computer, and use the money to get yourself a place in Japan, and to study Ninjitsu.
To become a "certified ninja" if you want to call it that, you'd most definitely have to go to Japan because that's where the art originated and where the best instructors are. However, if you find an excellent instructor, you may be able to become a ninja in America, but it's unlikely. Training would take years, and you'd have to have a very high degree black belt to become one.
Make sure you know what you're getting into if you decide to become a ninja. Learning Ninjitsu is a long, hard process, with millions of little techniques to memorize. You would also have to do a good deal of physical conditioning to get far in Ninjitsu. The only way you can learn Ninjitsu, is if you have a "never stop trying" attitude, and know that you will have fun doing it.
And yes, OF COURSE THERE ARE WOMEN NINJAS!!

A.M.;
What is being passed off as ninjutsu nowadays is not real ninja training.
Ninja were assassins who murdered by any means. There tactics were really 'low-life', dirty and deceitful practices for killing for hire.
They practiced black magic, summoning demon spirits to assist them in their murdering.
There is no honor in being a ninja.
Would you join a terrorist group to kill people? Cold-hearted killing? It's the same thing, only terrorists are fighting for a "cause".
You hear on the news about cold-blooded killers and how they violate people's lives.
Is this what you want to be known as?
America has given the whole ninja-honor card to sell videos and open schools.
Their is no ninja here in America and in Japan, you would not know who was ninja.
Study some honorable form of traditional martial arts. You're an adult, I assume.
Ninja is a kid's fantasy.
Seriously!

Sensei obviously has no clue as to what true ninjutsu really is. He couldn't be further from the truth. No, you are not too old. You can learn, but not to be a ninja in the sense you may be thinking. Bujinkan budo taijutsu is what it is called now. You can also learn To-shin do. Take a look at www.ninjutsu.com or www.skhquest.com for some great info on these arts. Good luck. :-)

well not to be a buzz kill but it is highly unlikely you could become a ninja this late in the game. yes there are female ninja, but they spent almost thier entire life training. you could study ninjitsu and see how far it takes you, but you would have to have a large degree of natural talent, a knack, for the art. if you truly want to be a ninja i recommend dropping everything moving to Japan or China and studying there.

Yes, anyone can study to be a master of ninjitsu.
Remember: It's never to late to accomplish greatness.
For example, the famous master Masaaki Hatsumi, didn't start learning Ninjitsu until he was nearly 27; And he ended up mastering nine (count 'em 9) different styles of Ninjitsu. Later, he ended up being one of the first to teach Ninjitsu to women and foreigners. Among these students was his wife, who made it all the way to 10th dan (a very high level).
So, a good question to ask yourself is: To what lengths will you go to make it happen?
