Ringworm is supposed to clear up in 1 month or so.

I home treated after searching around online. A ferret board highly recommended something, which I verified with the pharmacist and I used it with excellent results. My cat only had the one spot on him (about 3" across) and he was half feral so bathing wasn't an option. I went to Walgreens and got a tube of Miconazole which is a 4% solution (the vet solutions are usually 2%), Miconazole is the generic name, the brand name is Monistat 3. Either will work, but the generic is only $8 a tube.

Smear a dab on the edges of the fur on the spots three times a day. DO NOT scrub, you only spread the spores further. I made that mistake at first and enlarged the spot significantly. New hair growth will show up within a week. I takes a month for it to completely kill the spores off.

Since Fred gave ME a spot on my leg as well, I used the same thing on me. And as the pharmacist said, with people it takes 2 months, so mine lasted longer than Fred's did but they did both clear up.

If you have a pet apothecary/pharmacist in your area, give them a call, there's a liquid medicine you can dab on that works great, a lady who fosters ferals told me about that one, she found that it's much easier to do that with kittens or cats who can't be handled much. It's the same cost as the regular meds, but is easy to apply.

Eight weeks is a long time to go without results. Make sure you aren't scrubbing at the area, that only spreads the problem. The cream worked wonderful for us.

What I found on line does show that ringworm untreated in feral cats does resolve itself in about 4 months, but it's much easier on the cats to get treated--I know they look awful in this condition but it IS treatable!

Check out the Miconazole / Monistat 3, compare the ingredients with the creams from the vets ($8 for a tube is MUCH better than the $20 a tube the vet has), and try that. It worked on Fred (and me) and it works on ferrets as well.

Malesab shampoo. It works miracles. You can also get malasab pledglets. (little wipes). Oral antifungal works too. Ketoconazole is a good one. It should start to resolve itself with this treatment. Lime sulfer dips are kinda outdated.]

Side note- Ringworm is NOT a worm. It's a fungus. Wormer will not work on a cat with ringworm. It's a common misconception

Stop using it and get some Malaseb shampoo from your vet,and an oral antifungal as well. I don't know why the vet would continue to prescribe lime sulfer when it isn't working there are so many other more effective drugs.Good luck.

i am not sure what lime sulfur is but i've heard that feeding a small amount of tobacco mixed in with food will get rid of worms.
