- How Islam started:
Since the 3rd century Arabs were polytheist pagans. They believed in the one God of their ancestor Noah, but they also worshiped idols as mediators. The message of Islam started with Muhammad, who’s believed to be a profit. in the 7th century. People opposed his message as it happened to Noah, Abraham, & others. Muslims were persecuted just like early Christians. After14 years, Muslims found safe refuge in Medina & from there they struck back.
- How the Turks became Muslims:
There are 3 main periods where the Turks became Muslims. 1st was the Islamic conquest of the Persian empire in the 7th centure. Some Turkish tribes were subjects in Persia & they benefited from the new rule of the Muslims, so they converted. 2nd was in the 10th century. That was when the Caliph of Baghdad used the warriors of the Turkish tribes to defend his throne against any competing dynasty. The Turks adopted a new ideology & looked to themselves as the strong defenders of Islam, especially, the Seljuk Turks, who were the 1ts to confront the Crusaders in the 11th century. The 3rd were the Mongol descendents of Genghis Khan (considered Turkish tribes, or cousins of Turks). They invaded the Muslim east & were stopped at the gate of Egypt. It was a rare case in history when the victor adopted the religion/rules of the vanquished

Just a short story from a scientific standpoint.
On or about A.D. 550 (error of 50 years +/-) they documented a massive explosion or erruption that affected the global climate for roughly five years. They eventually calculated that the explosion had come from (volcano) Krakatoa (sp) and discovered it had not errupted for 10,000 years prior to the 550A.D. erruption. It typically blows its top every one thousand years on average. So, several cubic miles of rock and lava and ash and other fun stuff like sulphur was blown into the atmosphere and reeked havoc on the global weather patterns.
So, as has happened for thousands of years, people who lived close to the land as farmers and so forth abandoned their homes and lifestyles and moved toward the cities in hopes of finding work so as to not starve to death. It was at this time that the "Prophet Mohammed" began talking to these refugees and people began to believe that God was smiting them and this is why they decided to follow Mohammeds teachings so as to avoid a repeat future event. They obviously had no knowledge of the massive explosion of Krakatoa that caused the significant global weather changes. Islam did not exist prior to 550A.D..
The Holy Spirit does work in mysterious ways and these secular people embraced a religion that brought them into a relationship with God but different than Judaism and Catholisism. On any given day you could pick out the same number of radical Christians and Jews as Muslims.
The Turks just happened to be exposed to Islam many years ago and embraced it although there's a lot more to that story.
Ironically, the Christian Crusades made have inspired the Islam Crusade since many countries that were formerly Islamic were purged by "Christian Armies" and Islam fell by the wayside.
Good Luck!

Islam started with God's revelations to the Prophet Muhammed, in the early seventh century (by the European calendar).
Over time, Turkic peoples migrated and conquered their way to lands adjacent to Muslim countries (and vice versa, as Islam approached Turkic lands), and large segments of the Turkic population chose to convert to Islam.

There is heaps of information available for such questions on the internet. Seems to me such questions are posted to simply attract internet users for rating purpose. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Let me clear one thing, in Islam we do not separate people by labels such as Turks, British, French or Chinese etc. It was Muslims who were ruling the Muslim world not the Turks.

Islam was not a new religion and came to confirm & perfect the earlier religions.
In all possible worst & decayed society where female infants were burried alive and with no rules & regulations to run the society, Mohammad was born.
He became popular soon for his behavior and was considered the most honest person in his dealings.
During his 40s Quran was revealed to him which revolutionised the world later on. Thus Islam came into being with some revolutionary commandments.
Rest is the history...............
" The laws of koran revolutionised social relations. Increased
production, the result of this revolution quickened trade which
ushered in an era of cosmopolitanism and spiritual uplift."
--[The Historic Role of Islam, by M.N.Roy,pg-21,Vora & Co.8 Round Building, Bombay-2]
" The circumstances of the age were favourable to the dramatic expansion of Islam. It rose in the period of intellectual and spiritual decline of the rulling classes throughout the world of ancient civilisations."--[ Ibid ,pg-52, ]
" The inhabitants of Syria welcomed the followers of Mahomet, the copts of Egypt contributed to place thier country under the domination of the Arabs, and the Christians Berbers aided the conquest of Africa."--[History of the Byzantine Empire, by FINLAY]
"Both by European Christian standards and by those of Islam, many of the old practices were immoral, and Muhammad’s reorganization was therefore a moral advance (Muhammad at Medina by W. Montgomery Watt,p. 289).
" Of all the great religions of the world, Islam embraced- prior to the expansion of christian missionary activity in the 10th century- the widest variety of races. Originally amongst Arabs and other semitic peoples, it spread amongst Iranians, Caucasians, Mediterranean, whites, slaves, Turks and Tatars, Chinese, Indians, Indonesians,Bantus and west African Negroes." --[ Mohammadanism, An Historical Survey, by HAMILTON A.R.GIBB, pg-25 ]
A little about Mohammad..........
The founder of Islam has been characterised as," The man who, of all men, exercised the greatest influence upon the human race."--[History of the Intellectual Developement of Europe, by DRAPER, VOL.I, pg-239]
" I may also add Prophet Mohammad is also a historic personality, every event of whose life has been most carefully recorded and even the minutest details preserved intact for the posterity. His life and works are not wrapped in mystery."--[Mohammed The Prophet By Prof. K. S. Ramakrishna Rao, Head of the Department of Philosophy,Government College for Women University of Mysore, Mandya-571401 (Karnatika).Re-printed from "Islam and Modern age", Hydrabad, March 1978.
"Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?"--[Lamartine, HISTOIRE DE LA TURQUIE, Paris, 1854, Vol. II, pp. 276-277.]
Turks becoming Muslims............
By the end of the 7th century , Islam spread among the Turkic-speaking peoples, who were migrating westward from North and Central Eurasia.they colonized and settled Anatolia in the name of Islam, especially following the defeat of the Byzantines. The conquest of the Byzantine capital of Constantinople—[Kustuntuniya] in 1453 enabled the Ottomans to consolidate their empire in Thrace and Anatolia
Today more than 98% of Turkish people are Muslims.

According to Islamic accounts, Islam was started by a warlord named Muhammad somewhere in the 7th century. Muhammad lead twenty-six separate battles of war, the final military success of which, was the capture of Mecca. Once Muhammad had militarily seized key Arabian cities, he was in a strong postion to propogate his religion.
Jihadists then slaughtered Islam upon adjacent lands so quickly, that historically speaking, the spread of Islam during this early period is considered to have happened very quickly.
Islamic empires then grew from there (Ummayd, and Abysid), the most successful of which was the Ottoman Turks.
