Cats shed. And some cats do scratch the furniture even when you get them a scratching post. Declawing them is cruel and unacceptable. So, I would say don't get a cat. I don't think a home where the adult in charge doesn't like cats is going to be a good home for a cat anyway. Cats are sensitive. Your cat would know your mom didn't like it and that fact alone might cause the cat to act out.

You just would have to accept her view.
You cant help the hair, even short hair cats will leave traces of hair on dark clothing and furniture and you wouldnt want to argue with her each time it happens.
A scratching post might help, but cats can get bored of it or dislike it and will use furniture or carpets eventually.

But declawing a cat is like cutting your fingers off.
Only sadistic selfish bastards would do that to a cat.

Some people just aren't cat people. You can help prevent them shedding by getting a cat with shorter hair and you can help them to not scratch furniture by getting them a scratching post.

Don't declaw a cat when if you get one. Just respect what your mom wants. You probably have some things that other people convince you to do and you don't wanna do it. It's her money that she paid for the furniture, and she doesn't want all that money going to waste. Please wait and be patient with your mother. I know it's truely hard..but just wait awhile. Don't pressure her!!

GOOD LUCK!! <3333

My dad hates it when the cat hairs are on the clothes and the furniture. My dad hates it when they scratch the couch and get in his way. Whenever my cats are in the way, he gets mad and says "F" bomb swears and wishes they could leave and go to a shelter, blah blah blah.
I would say, encourage her to get used to it. That's what I do when my dad feels this way.

go to the library and research to find a bread that sheds less. save your own money to pay for vet bills, food, supplies, and training aids to deter furniture scratching.

she got a legit arguement... cats shed and shred!!!! no way around that .....change tactics and start asking for bigger and nastier animals, like a potbelly pig, or a big ole fat Boa, or stinky rats
