a real, arguable point, i mean. not, "well they don't believe that jesus is god." there is no evidence that he was.

or "muslims are suicide bombers" because that's about as accurate as saying all christians hate fags because of the westboro baptist church.

i'm looking for an academic answer with supporting evidence that is convincing that Islam is not divinely inspired. i don't know alot about islam and i need a legitimate reason not to join.

please no generalizations or scripture. that ignorance does not change my ignorance on the subject.

that's not my opinion. you don't seem to understand the statement.

and racism has nothing to do with homophobia.

being racist means discriminating against people because they belong to a certain racial or ethnic group.

please learn something from this.

The Koran teaches that Jesus is just a prophet
The Koran teaches that a prophet can not lie.
Jesus said, "I and the Father are one."
"I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me."

So if Jesus and the Father are one, and the only way to the Father is through Jesus, then that would make the Koran false. If Jesus lied about this, then he isn't a prophet, again the Koran would be false. If Jesus is a prophet then he can't lie, therefore, what he said must be true, then why follow the teachings of Muhammed, that Jesus is not the way to God.

The intention behind your questions - I'm not sure exactly what it is. Because this really doesn't sound like someone who is seeking after God.

But anyway - The way you are dealing with Islam - the negative view you already have toward it - is a reason, good enough for you not to join Islam.

I don't think you will ever be able to find God in Islam - or any other religion - if you search for God the way you do.

I'll just borrow a piece of an article from the Criterion newspaper from the Arch Diocese of Indianapolis.

It seems like common sense to me but few people see the same thing or ponder the great mystery of life and religion to understand or comprehend what some take for granted.

Not quoting word for word and this is a boiled down one sentence answer from a very long letter.

Through the workings of the Holy Sprit most religions are ultimately focused on the same thing(s).

The only thing that you might say is worth discussing with regards to Islam is their ideas of destruction of all other peoples and religions in an effort to spread their religion.

One of the latest quips from Bin Laden was that all of America has to convert to Islam or continue to face his wrath of death and destruction.

How do you attract people to Islam when the ultimadum for non-compliance or conversion is death?

Good Luck!

I'm sorry I'm not that good in English, but I get it that you want an argument "AGAINST" Islam, right?
Why? :)

Anyways, I'm a Muslim, Arab, and I consider myself a "Moderate" one as "we're called" "nowadays" by "some".. I don't fight (if I do) for the Seven or whatever virgins in heaven, but I do and give my soul and body and money because Allah (and what Jihad is all about) Ordered me to defend the weak, yes, this is JIHAD as we Muslims believe in (we can move to the reason to all the "Jihads" all over the world now is because, which is Palestine)..

The main reason for us to live is to develop a better world to return at the end to heaven which we were supposed to reside in the beginning, and we all agree on that, Muslims, Christians and Jews, right?

if you wanna ask about Islam be my guest, mail me and see what I have to say, please, don't just hate Muslims for no reason or follow the media, or else accept if we Muslims imagine all Christians sleeping with each other as movies or soap portrait, deal? ;)

I should advice anyone to read Qur'an first, but I know it's hard, even on "Most" Muslims, so please seek the truth, don't follow the media, don't follow anyone, it's the mistake every one made before and died without knowing the truth or following the right pass..

I wish you all happy New Year and merry Christmas :)

Best argument against any religion would be "have the deity in question appear, do something that can't be anything but some sort of all powerful god and there, everyone would believe"

The speculation and belief in a higher power has been around for ages.
However, if there was even the tiniest shred of evidence in any of them, EVERYONE would believe in that one god.
Since not everyone believes in any one god, it's reasonable to assume there has been absolutely nothing concrete to even provide an iota of chance that one exists.

The best arugment against islam becomes the same argument against christianity, it's just naive.
Which is why they preach faith.
Believing without ANY evidence.
Some people are ok with it, others aren't.

Look at the countries in which Islam is practiced - are they significantly better than those in which Islam is absent in their belief system, etc etc.
What you look at the individual level, applies as a whole to the nation as well.
Look at people of different religions - it is no coincidence that their lives are no different from each other, and from those of non-believers. They are not any happier, more secure, etc etc than the others...
And so I say - belief does not change a thing. Does not matter at all... there is no benefit for them. Really.
All they have, are the company of their fellow worshippers - and that is all they have here. They will not get their reward in heaven, etc etc as they were promised by their religion. All that is a lie, because it is an impossibility.

My "best" argument would be that the Quran was written in about 650 A.D. So what was used prior to this period?

I am not knocking Islam by any means. I am pointing out that their religious writings originated in 650 A.D. The Dead Sea Scrolls date back over 2000 years and validate the text of the Bible.

This being said Muslims that I know lead a far more moral life than many self proclaimed Christians. It is not my intention to offend Muslims OR Christians.

Suicide is an act of murder and that is a greater sin. A person who commits a greater sin and does not repent for it is a transgressor. His testimony is unacceptable. After death, he is liable for divine punishement. By the grace of Allah such a person may yet get salvation; and the Grace of Allah that can make this possible is the intercession on Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w) and his Progeny (a.s)

As the Holy prophet (s.a.w) says in one of his traditions:
" My intercession has been kept for the sinful among my followers." (Behaarul anwaar Vol.3)

He (s.a.w) also said,
"My intercession is specially for the sinful ones among my followers,But those who abstain from Greater sins, for them there is no accounting (of deeds)."

That is, they would be admitted to Paradise right away.

But Intercession should not prompt one to commit Sins:
There is hardly any doubt regarding the reality of intercession. Actually it is bestowed upon the Holy Prophet (s.a.w) and the purified Imams (a.s), by Allah, to show their greatness and position.

The other aim of intercession is to make their respect evident. The people who have committed Greater sins shall be entrusted to them. By the grace of their intercession the sinful people will be able to ascend the heights like other groups of people.

But intercession should not be taken as a license for committing sins nor should it make one heedless of repentance.

Suicide in the hope of salvation:
To sin and not to repent in the hope of intercession is akin to consuming poison or putting ones hand in the smake's mouth with the hope that a doctor would arrive and cure you. it is against logic, because after consuming poison it cannot be taken fro granted that medical assistance would be available.

Even if a doctor and medicines arrive on time it is difficult to say that life qould be saved. Before the medicine could have any effect the poison may spread to the whole body and death may occur.

In the same way, one who performs lewd actions in the hope that he would be interceded after death; cannot be sure that intercession will come to the rescue immediately.

there is no real argument against Islam, or any other religion - or atheism - we don't know what is divinely inspired, or if that really makes a difference

the only "proof" ur going to get is "scriptures"

hey someguy there are 3 things wrong with ur argument
1. Islam spelled backwards is "malsi" not "malis"
3. and it's spelled "malice" not "malis"
(I know i missed #2 - but there's a good chance someguy would not be able to figure that out)

Why argue? There's nothing you are going to say that will change the way people believe. At the end of the day, the devout Muslim will still be a devout Muslim and a devout Christian will still be a devout Christian.

Learn to be tolerant.
