When i attach the document to an email, the .xls reappears after the .XLS. If I remove the .xls. the content of the document is lost. My supervisor wants to receive the document as .XLS. How do I handle this one?

there is no difference between .xls and .XLS
the caps lock doesn't matter.

the issue is with your Windows.
open the folder with the file
-click Tools
-click Folder Options
-click View
-scroll down and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
-click ok

now you should see all your extensions. and you can rename them in all caps if you want.
