If you're intellectually committed, you won't mind keeping the wheels of industry turning, while the rest of us celebrate. Thanks!

Interesting that so many call it a Pagan holiday. Christmas was placed on this day to counter the Pagan celebration.

Im not an atheist, but a pagan...I took the solstice off, and will work christmas morning at the hospital, then my kids, my husband and I will work at the battered womens shelter volunteering for the people who believe in jesus, trying to make them happy - as we believe it doesnt matter what you believe in, but that you have happiness in your life.
we have been collecting toys, clothes, and other gifts since July - do the christians think of christmas in july? probably not, but my family - the hideous pagans do. and we strive to make all happy!

Intellectually committed to what, dear?

Are you implying that you must believe in Christ in order to put up a big ol' Pagan tree, participate in fun little Pagan traditions like exchanging gifts, or just sit at home and watch parades and a marathon of Its a Wonderful Life?

Anyway... no, I won't be working tomorrow, and it's the first Christmas I haven't worked in years.

I did work this morning! Got up at 4:30 am in fact. Unfortunately I can't afford to turn down work when it's available.

But I find it odd that Christians should be allowed a day off for a pagan based holiday but atheists aren't.

No I'll just continue to celebrate christmas without the religious bits

The big question is why do xians celebrate what is essentially a pagan holiday.

Yes, it's time and a half. By the way Christmas is a Federal holiday so being an atheist has nothing to do with it.

I am working over christmas thanks, and I'm working with the homeless and hungry, because I feel I have moral obligations that have nothing to do with religion. I'd be at work, but Christians forced the closure of our youth drop-in centre for the public holiday. Fatten up, Christian!

I do work as a volunteer and at my real job over the holiday. Enjoy your day off.

Actually I did volunteer to work Christmas.

But, since I have the day off anyway, I'll head to my favorite charity and serve Christmas dinner to the homeless, and donate my company's annual ham.

And what about you? Staying home to smugly subject your family to an ascetic day?
