My dog has fleas and flea bites all over his body, and I know my apartment has to be infested with them. I want to flea bomb the apartment but don't know what kind works the best. I also want to give my dog capstar but not sure where to get it. Can I only get it through a vet or are there any stores where I can get it?

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment, would it be smart to set off flea bombs in each of the rooms and the living room? If I put a flea bomb off in a bedroom should I leave the sheets on and then take them off after and wash? Or should I take them off before? Also is there a special treatment I'd have to get to clean my furniture after I flea bomb?

Thank you all in advance for your answers, I have never had to deal with a flea infestation before and want to make sure I do everything right.

There are no good brands of 'bombs' available from pet stores. Pet stores are not licensed to sell the proper chemicals for flea treatment. Get your treatments from a vet; a spot-on like Frontline for your dog, and a proper spray for your house like Indorex, Acclaim, Staykil or Skoosh.

Okay, first you want to get rid of the fleas on the dogs, at the same time you will want to wash the dog's bedding. The best brand of flea bomb is made by a company called Adams, they make a product that is very safe and kills the adult fleas as well as breaking down the enzymes in the flea eggs so they don't hatch. (Fleas jump off the dog to lay eggs.) Put your bedding in the washing machine while your house is being bombed, when you set off the bombs, spray them under your furniture first, then set the can up in the middle of the room and take all live things out of your appartment with you for a couple of hours, the package will tell you how long to wait.
You can get Adams Flea products from some vets and pet supply stores, you'll just need to call around to find them.

We used IGR purchased at a pet store in addition to several cans of Raid household flea spray on primarily the floors in our building during a time after a couple feral cats took up residence in our garage for a few days before they were trapped and evicted. After the initial vacuuming and spray of our house throughout, we only had to repeat the process lightly once (after getting one other bite on my leg). We don't have any pets but since that time about 4 years ago, we've had no more fleas in the house or garage. We live in a coastal area with sandy soil and lots of stray cats and wildlife running around in our neighborhood. The few days it gets hot here also hatches fleas -- so I know they are still out there.. Perhaps your vet could advise you about the safety of Zodiac Fogger.

Well, I'm not very experienced in this. Personally, I would ask a vet. There are different brands in different states. And also different bombs work better or worse in certain climates. Your vet could prob best help you with this.

Its really nice to hear how much you love your dog, alot of people would just do the monthy advantage or ext.

As for the sheet thing, their should be direction on the back of the box, but dont forget to wash your plates and bowls before using, and dont leave any open food in cupboards or anything.

Good luck, merry Christmas!

Fleas are HORRIBLE!!! I hate them. I have had to deal with this problem so many times. I found some links on Care2.com. I will send you the links I have used these remedies myself and they totally work. The best part is they are safe for our furry friends. Good luck with the pests.
