I don't see why commercial and spiritual have to eclipse one or the other. It's possible and easy to be both, equally. Jesus himself said 'Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and to god that which is god's.' In other words, it's possible to be commercial and spiritual while being a good person. One does not have to undermine the other. Don't forget that one of the presents the Wise Men gave baby jesus was gold. Money!

Yes. When the Target store I work @ does $460 k on black friday, & $300k last Sat., I would say that people care more about spending money than remembering the real reason of the holiday season

I would say in about 50% of the homes. I asked "How many people celebrating Cristmas have actually been to church this year" and got a fair number of responses. Most were yes.

Yes, speaking not personally but of the culture at-large, I think it's gone that far and we should just let it go. Call it the winter holiday and no longer besmirch the name of Christ with this materialistic mess.
