The Second Vatican Council was the 21st Ecumenical Council of the Catholic Church that took place from 1962 to 1965. The documents decreed from this council were mainly over the Liturgy, the nature of the Church, the college of bishops, Scripture, and divine revelation. There were many changes done to the Catholic Church in doctrine and worship after the closing of the council. There were extreme criticisms about the changes and the council itself from traditionalists, those who retained the doctrines and practices, refuting the changes. The aftermath caused confusion with traditional Catholics themselves. Some traditionalists believe that there has not been a valid Pope since 1958 while other traditionalists elect their own Pope. Catholics and non-Catholics, what are your opinions about the Second Vatican Council?

I applaud it for modernizing the Catholic Church. Religions that do not address current times become stale and outdated and they lose some of their meaning and impact. While the message certainly doesn't have to be changed, continuing to treat congregations as if they were uneducated and illiterate was not only unhelpful but increasingly insulting to many Catholics.

I am Catholic, and really, the Church has not changed much in 2000 years, and I mean that positively.

I don't agree with the 'traditionalists', and I find their attitudes heretical, almost!

Our humanities class (back in college) sponsored a Tridentine Mass once; charming!

One thing I do NOT approve of, though, and I do not really know if Vatican 2 has anything to do with it, is the strange thing some Catholic parishes in the US do with the mass: they do not always recite the CREDO, which, I think, makes it only 4/5 of a mass!

Like I said, it hasn't really changed much in almost 2000 years.

I would like to see the Latin Mass (Tridentine) returning instead of the Mass in the vernacular language. It was nice before when one could travel anywhere in the world and understand the Mass. The change to the vernacular reminds me of the tower of Babel and I preferred the Church speaking in its own language.

I don't recognize it's "authority" nor that of the Catholic Church. Though I was brought up a Catholic, I am not one anymore for the leadership of this religion turns a blind eye to the Lord's truths in DOCTRINE.
