Ask all your neighbors with sheds and garages to check. Sometimes the cat will sneak in while they are taking out the snowblower, or pulling in their car, then they hide in the back and the door gets closed on them before they get out. Also check all your own closets and cabinets (I took a bowl out of a cabinet, got some milk, closed the cabinet, and SURPRISE! my girlfriend's cat was "missing" he snuck in and stayed there for half an hour before meowing got him "saved"). And obviously follow the other suggestions about contacting the vet, and putting up flyers.

Call all the local and even not so local vets and shelters at least morning and before they close. Cats can travel a long way in a short space of time. Plus maybe someone picked her up and dropped her with a vet or shelter closer to them than you.
Remember many shelters only keep animals for 48 hours before either putting them up for adoption or well you know what the "or" is. Better still drop by all the shelters. Maybe the description you give would not be picked up on and you may miss your cat going through the system because of misinterpretation

Make sure you check each and every shelter in your area. Many people forget one they may not know of, so ask at each if they know of other places to look for your cat. Also sick cats may hide if they feel unwell, so make sure you look all around where she might be hiding in the house and outside just in case she found a spot you missed. Good luck finding your kitty.

In addition to checking with the local vets and shelters, you can put out flyers with pictures of your cat, check with the neighbors, and check anywhere that a kitty can hide. Try calling too, but make sure to listen: She might be too scared to come out, but will call back.
Good luck.

Look around and make sure she isn't stuck in a closet or in a shed outside...is she locked in the basement? If she is out in the field somewhere, she'll come back when she gets hungry.

I basically agree with Teoni - was your cat a stray that you adopted?? Has it been fixed?
I have had many cats that have gotten out/run away - they have always come back, though sometimes not for a few months.
