Just go and get it over with. It's a lot easier than putting it off. If you're big enough to do the crime, you're big enough to go to court. You'll only be in front of the judge a few minutes.

It would help if I knew the violation and the specifics.
1) If it's a trafic ticket you can pay the ticket or go to court.
2) Did the Police officer suggest you go to court?
3) Did the Police officer tell you that you were required to go to court.
4) Was it a violent offence?
5) Do you have a history of offences, priors.
6) Were you served with a supena or a writ or a summons requiring you to go to court.
if the answer is #1 i suggest paying the ticket unless this is a mistake on the Police offisers part. In that case you should go to court , you won't need a lawyer ask for duty council to assist you when you get to the court room.
If it's #2 The Ploice officer may be suggesting he is willing to cut you some slack on the ticked providing you are responsable eanough to ruin your whole day in court.
If it's #2 and you have a bad reputation with the Police _ get a lawyer strait away and tell the lawyer to go in your absence as you fear that the Police officer may be trying to vex you and you are not comfertable around this specific officer, (you are too scared to face the Policeman in court) This has to be legitimate if they find you are trying to pull a fast one they will drop the book on you.
If it is 4, 5, or 6 you must go to court, you can hire a lawyer, ask for legal aid if you qualify, or ask duty councel to represent you on the court date.
I wish I new more about the offence

Why would you? If you don't go, and hire an attorney to be present for you there are several issues.

1. Lawyers are expensive, and are not always necessary
2. The policeman may offer you a deal, especially if it is a traffic offense.

Hire an attorney to attend on your behalf. The only thing is it will cost you some money, and going to court yourself will be a lot cheaper
