Many studies investigated the benefits of red wine suggested that moderate amount of red wine (one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men) lowers the risk of heart attack for people in middle age by ~ 30 to 50 percent. It is also suggested that alcohol such as red wine may prevent additional heart attacks if you have already suffered from one. Other studies also indicated that red wine can raise HDL cholesterol (the Good cholesterol) and prevent LDL cholesterol (the Bad cholesterol) from forming. Red wine may help prevent blood clots and reduce the blood vessel damage caused by fat deposits. Indeed, studies showed that people from the Mediterranean region who regularly drank red wine have lower risks of heart disease

Most drinkers are not alcoholics just as most eaters are not obese food addicts. Islam doesn't ban junk food or vitamin supplements (too much vitamins like too much of anything will be bad for you) so why bad all forms of alochol (drinking wine can be good for your heart and reduce chance of heart disease).

gkqwndrnrakstp,
My first question for you: What are these "bad aspects"?
My secondary questions are: are the "bad aspects" to do with those who suffer from overconsumption?; do these "bad aspects" have affect those (most of us) who drink with moderation?

Somebody else,
You haven't shown that there are any bad affects on moderate drinkers (nor have you shown that these bad affects outweight the good ones), you've just claimed so without proof.
Because religion says so? I guess that's an appeal but I'm hoping for an appeal to reason, not merely what your religion says.

Exodus 20:1-17,
I'm not a Christian myself but I have grown up in a Christian family and country and Christians are allowed to drink.
I have suggested that drinking red wine can be healthy for you, what does that have to do with drinking hard alcohol? I did not say drink as much as you can or drinking as much alcohol as you can, I said drinking red wine can be good for you.

Rampage,
Does moderate drinking have averse affects on the brain?
problems arise when intake is considered to be really quite high. Moderation and balance is the key. British recommendations are two to three units of alcohol a day for women and three to four units for men. It's a good idea to have two or to three alcohol-free days each week.

Mike,
Show me a medical site where it says a moderate consumption of alcohol causes brain cells to die.
Most people are not addicted to alcohol. Most people in Western nations drink. "Islam doesn't ban junk food or vitamin supplements (too much vitamins like too much of anything will be bad for you) so why bad all forms of alochol (drinking wine can be good for your heart and reduce chance of heart disease)."
How can you compare drinking alcohol (something not inherently wrong) to rape and suicide? You're saying they're the same with your false analogy. Mike, red wine is considered beneficial even with alcohol and is recommended by physicians. You never hear "drink grapes" for your heart.

They prefer defending their Islamic beliefs over reason. They mine quote things that could be used in their defense, and ignore the whole bunch of evidence that goes against their claim or they use fallacies and misinformation to discredit truth.

There is some good in a lot of things that are mostly bad.
But it doesn't really matter, because the reason Muslims don't drink is because God told us not to very clearly in the Qur'an. If you are a Muslim and you believe that the Qur'an is the word of God, then there's really no wiggle room about alcohol.
+ Look, alcohol can be consumed in moderation, we know that. So can cocaine. But it doesn't matter if it can be consumed in moderation, because it's still forbidden by God. A lot of scholars have put forth various reasons as to why this may be, such as it is bad for a person to voluntarily lose control of their mental facilities, but when you get down to it all that matters is that God told us not to drink alcohol so we don't. If that's not good enough justification for you, so what? You're not a Muslim anyway.

I believe the answer is found in the URL www.faithfreedom.org
Sometimes people misunderstand between mild drinking for health and getting drunk. Life is for those who are not in obsession but for those in moderation. AHIMSA is a pre requisite to understand life itself. To achieve happiness one needs to be free from attachments and sense gratifications but everything must be in moderation including religious fanaticism.

All what you say is bull *****. God commands don't drink alcohol and Muslims abstain from it. You must be crazy if you think we will listen to you and not our God?
Drinking alcohol is addictive. Look in Ameica, 40,000 people are killed in auto accidents and half of them are caused by drunken drivers. 200,000 plus are severely injured and many disabled for life. Alcoholism ruins marriages, women and children suffer from divorces. It kills hundreds of thousands a year from heart diseases that it causes. There are very very highly disciplined few people who can control themselves to only one or two pack a day. Majority of people get addictive and never can quit it. Millions of them loose their jobs and are not productive members of society. It affects control of mind and intoxicated men can not see what they are doing and where they are going.
Do you think you are wiser than God who created us. Keep your wine to yourself and do not suggest Muslims to drink this evil liquid of yours. No Muslims is interested in it. Do you know that if a Muslim young man is known to use liquor in Muslim community no any Muslim family gives him a daughter in marriage. We hate it that much.

The Glorious Qur’an prohibits the consumption of alcohol in the following verse:
"O ye who believe!
Intoxicants and Gambling,
(Dedication of) stones,
And (divination by) arrows,
Are an Abomination –
Of Satan’s handiwork;
Eschew such (abomination),
That ye may prosper."
[Al-Qur’an 5:90]
"Satan's plan is to cause opposition and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinders you from remembering Allah, and from your prayer to Him, will you then avoid and keep away from them?"
(Al-Qur'an: 5:91)

well its not really about harm and benefit. Pork in general, doesnt cause harm but it is still forbidden. Cow meat for example, is high in cholesterol, but it is permissible to eat. So forbidding alcohol is just another test from Allah to test our will.
Cheers

I am a Christian. I don't drink either. It's NOT the alcohol that is beneficial, it is the grape skins that have chemicals that offer these benefits. If it was the alcohol alone, then why not drink hard liquor. It has MORE alcohol!
GOD bless
