This is backed up by

Ephesians 2:20 - "and YOU have been built up upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, while Christ Jesus himself is the foundation cornerstone"

Jesus Christ is the foundation stone upon who all our faith is based. Without him there is no faith,no church, and no hope.
Without Jesus christ we might as well eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we will die and go to hell because without him we are without hope.
