I can understand her confusion,
The Fox is one of the canidea species with the wolf, wild dogs and domestic dogs being the other.
However the Fox is not a pack animal as the others are so is more feline in behaviour!
It's a dog's cousin is the best description!

I'm guessing its more of a dog, as the dog is related to the wolf. The Fox would seem to be in that league to me.

"Fox is a name applied to any one of roughly 27 species of small to medium-sized Canidaes in the tribe Vulpini, with sharp features and a bushy tail or brush."
www.wikipedia.com
So, according to that, the Fox is part of the canine (dog) family.

Although it is in the same family as the dog,Canidae,it belongs to a different Genus,Vulpes, and so it cannot interbreed with dogs, wolves or coyotes. It is no relation to cats, but it does have some cat-like mannerisms.
