Question: "Who was Lilith / Lillith? Does the Bible say anything about Adam having another wife before Eve?"

Answer: There are un-Biblical legends that Adam had a wife before Eve who was named Lilith. The legends vary significantly, but they all essentially agree that Lilith left Adam because she did not want to submit to him. According to the legends, Lilith was an evil, wicked woman who committed adultery with Satan and produced a race of evil creatures. None of this is true. There is no Biblical basis whatsoever for these concepts. There is no one in the Bible named Lilith.

The passage most often pointed to as evidence for Lilith is Isaiah 34:14, which in the NRSV reads, "there too Lilith shall repose." This is a poor translation. Every other major translation of the Bible reads something to the effect of "night creature" or "screech owl." Even if "demon monster named Lilith" was the proper translation of the Hebrew word, Adam is nowhere even hinted at in this passage or its context. Whatever the Lilith was, it is not given any connection whatsoever to Adam or Creation.

Another commonly used support for Lilith is the differing Creation accounts in Genesis chapters 1-2. Some claim that the woman in Genesis 1 was Lilith, with the woman in Genesis 2 being Eve. This is completely ludicrous. Rather, Genesis chapter 2 is a "closer look" at the creation of Adam and Eve as recorded in Genesis chapter 1. The Bible specifically says that Adam and Eve were the first human beings ever created (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:18-25). This "Lilith" myth is popular in some radical feminist movements because Lilith is an example of a woman refusing to submit to male headship. While there are myths outside of the Word of God regarding Lilith, her complete absence from Scripture demonstrates that she is nothing more than a myth.

You get into some weird elements in Jewish esoterism and mysticism. "Offically" Judaism says no. UNOFFICALLY their were two women created before Eve. BUT the better is Adam is not the first Adam in many of these Jewish schools. And each of the three different Jewish Traditions before the Written books came down had their own variation on Adam so there were three adams

The story of Lilith can be found in the Talmud, a commentary on the Torah (first five books). It does not appear in the Bible. In fact, the name only occurs once in scripture, wherein she is demoted to a malevolent night demon inhabiting the desert. Most English translations don't even mention the name.

Lilith. That is an old Jewish myth. It isn't in the Bible per se, but Genesis does have it such that women were created twice. Once the same time as Adam, then again out of one of his ribs.

At the same time as Adam.
Genesis 1:27
God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

After Adam and all the animals were created.
Genesis 2:20-22
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

I heard it was Lilith. According to two documentaries I saw on The History Channel entitled "Banned From The Bible", Lilith was supposedly created from the dust of the earth like Adam. She saw herself as Adam's equal and refused to be a submissive wife.

Genesis 2:7  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 1:27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 2:21  And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22  And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Hope this helps.

The Great Gazoo has it right. Jewish tales say Lillith was created first. She wanted more equality so God tossed her out, then made Eve.
I personally think it's two versions of the same story but the Jewish Bible has books that are not in the Christian versions. Actually, I guess the Torah (Jewish Bible).

There are some old clay tablets that have been transliterated that discuss this. But yes it suggests that there was a large group of people made called the "adama" meaning "worker". Look at some of the books by Zechariah Sitchin.

Many of the stories found in the Bible come from old stories that are more complete and accurate than the readers digest version found in the Bible.

In a word, no. "Rumored" is the key word. The first woman was Eve, Adam's wife. You will find no reference to a wife before her.

Google "Lilith."

Some old Jewish commentaries on Genesis talk about Lilith, who may well have originally come from Sumerian mythology. Wikipedia has the following, discussing a Jewish work called "The Alphabet of Ben Sira":

The idea that Adam had a wife prior to Eve may have developed from an interpretation of the Book of Genesis and its dual creation accounts; while Genesis 2:22 describes God's creation of Eve from Adam's rib, an earlier passage, 1:27, already indicates that a woman had been made: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." The text places Lilith's creation after God's words in Genesis 2:18 that "it is not good for man to be alone". He forms Lilith out of the clay from which he made Adam, but the two bicker. Lilith claims that since she and Adam were created in the same way, they were equal, and she refuses to "lie below" him:

After God created Adam, who was alone, He said, 'It is not good for man to be alone.' He then created a woman for Adam, from the earth, as He had created Adam himself, and called her Lilith. Adam and Lilith immediately began to fight. She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be the superior one.' Lilith responded, 'We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth.' But they would not listen to one another. When Lilith saw this, she pronounced the Ineffable Name and flew away into the air.
