there's this person that i know who suffers from depression and anxiety.im asking this question, b/c she's always worrying that she's creepy b/c of something she does to help herself feel better. Sometiems she feels really lonely and really isolated and in the past she used to talk to herself as if she was talking to someone. like an imaginary friend. It was kind of like talk therapy for her, im guessing. She talked to her imagination about all her problems and the way she was feeling etc. and according to her, it made her feel a lot better. she talked things out and she wouldn't feel alone or isolated. it just helped her a lot. But she quit doing that b/c she thought it was too creepy and weird. i try convincing her it could be her own little secret and if it helped her then she should continue to talk to her "imaginary friend", but she's just too caught up in the fact that someone might think shes a moron if they found out. Shes not a creepy person, she just really struggles.

A lot of people talk to themselves to sort out whatever is going on in their heads. Now if she sits down to have tea, and she's making two cups (and it's only her in the room), then I may be a little worried.

i do this myself, and it does really help, I don't go as far as calling an imaginary voice my secret friend, but i do talk to myself like a would a friend, i reason with myself like a would counsel a friend, and it often works for me. I care for my thoughts the way i would care for a friends thoughts, i try to say something to them that they will accept, but something that is good and positive for them as well. I do this with my self, and i see a new perspective.

Not unusual for people with depressiona nd anxiety. It is a coping mechanism that works temporarily. but it's not a substitute for proper medication and therapy. She needs to find a doctor to prescribe some meds and the help her get into therapy. long road and a little wheel but your friend can do it.

It's natural to want to talk out your feelings. A lot of people act out confrontations or interviews by themselves. I would tell her not to worry about it because it's much more common than she thinks.

Nothing wrong with talking to yourself, some see it as a way of thinking out loud, some chat to the radio or TV.
If it works for her she should carry on doing it.

it's alright, but an actual ear would be better FOR SURE!!!! i guess it's pretty normal, she's definitly not the only one but i would suggest you talk to her more and even help her to connect with people and find friends. Hope she feels better soon!

As long as it helps her cope with her porblems what is the big deal.

No it is not creepy. Tell her to do whatever works for her.

if talking to herself makes her feel better then there's nothing wrong with that. just let her know that she can talk to you about anything that is bothering her also.
