The safety for Benadryl while breastfeeding hasn't been determined. It is Class B, i.e. safe, while pregnant, but I'd talk to your Pediatrician or OB/Gyn about the Benadryl while breastfeeding. I've listed an excellent resource from the American Academy of Pediatrics below. Hope this helps!

I am a breastfeeding mom and I occasionally will take loratadine (Claratin) which is pretty safe - it could be better than benedryl. The thing to be aware of is that antihistimines can decrease your milk supply, so it's so important to drink a lot of water. The BEST place to reseach this is on www.kellymom.com who has a database of medication safety with breastfeeding and pregnancy. It's also a good idea to doublecheck with your pediatrician of any medication you take. Most of them have a book of medication safety & breastfeeding (similar or the same as the database on the kellymom.com website, but still check with your doc all the same!). You could buy the source ("Medications & Mother's Milk by Dr. Hale) but it's obviously cheaper to just research it online. Good luck to you!!!!

Antihistamines can dry up your milk. If this is a chronic problem, I recommend a nasal spray, like Beconase AQ or Nasonex. They will not affect your milk. I took it when I was breastfeeding.

Any suggestions ? YES - ask your pediatrician, not a bunch of idiots like us on the internet if you really care about your baby.
