My mother just came out and told me when I was about 9 that Santa wasn't real.
However, I used to do all my Christmas shopping the night of December 23, come home around 3am on the 24th and wrap until 5 or 6am. When my kids were about 7 and 9, I'd done my usual shopping and wrapping, put all the gifts into a trash bag, and asked my husband to throw them into the back of his truck until that evening.
That night, he came home from work, I glanced into the back of his truck and panicked as all 5 bags of gifts were gone! I asked him where the gifts were and he had no clue what I was talking about. My mother-in-law, sensing the imminent fight, ushered the kids into the bedroom and began reading the Christmas story to them... LOUDLY.
It was only a couple minutes before we raced out of the house to get to his workplace (one of the perks was we were allowed to use the dumpster at his work). All we could do was hope that trash hadn't gone that day ("Does trash go on Christmas Eve?" "I don't know... today's the day it normally goes though." "It better not or we've got NO gifts for the kids!" "Do we have ANY money left?" "NO, and even if we did, WHERE are we going to get gifts on CHRISTMAS EVE????")
Well, we found the gifts... luckily trash hadn't gone... we pulled everything out, went home and pretended as though everything was perfectly normal.
A couple days later, I asked the kids what their favorite gifts were from Santa and they very sweetly told me they "knew" the truth. I asked what they meant and they told me that Santa couldn't possibly be real... he'd NEVER throw their gifts away!

I never believed in Santa. My parents are strict Catholic and wanted to raise us with what Christmas was about without Santa Claus. Imagine my surprise when I found out that other people believed in Santa. I don't practice anymore but I don't have a feeling one way or another about Santa. I don't have my own children and don't know if I will (I'm in my early 30's so I'll have to make a decision some time) but I can probably take or leave Santa. I think the magical element is lovely but not having had a stake in it when I was little probably changes my perspective a bit.

Makes me laugh now (not then) what Parents will do! God bless them!
My Mom was the best Santa! A young widow with 5 girls!
My oldest sister told us when she couldn't get us to sleep!
I cried and "hated" her for days!
Eventually,I realized it took an awful lot of pressure off of Mom!
My daughter is now 35, and her Daughter 16, and they still think I am Santa! lol
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

When I was 5 - I heard one of my classmates tell everyone Santa was not real. I was crushed. However, I'm not sure I ever REALLY stopped believing - at least all the way. Merry Christmas.

My brother and I, he was 4 years older. decided to turn the tables on Mum and Dad so we crept into their bedroom with a few presents after staying awake until they had gone to bed.
We made so much row trying to keep quiet, shushing one another and tripping and bumping into things, that they were convulsed with suppressed laughter and sides aching they managed to let us finish the task. Mum still remarked on this event when she was 90.
That was the first year that I disbelieved in Santa. Santa is the most magical thing that there is.

I noticed that one of "Santa's gifts" had a price tag on it from a unique store that only my parents would have been likely to shop at.
Santa doesn't buy things...and this store didn't give stuff away for free.
..assuming that Santa isn't a thief, the only logical conclusion was that Santa wasn't the bringer of these things.

When I was 7 I realized that santa was my father. The men in the neighborhood would take turns being santa. But when I was 7 it was my fathers turn, I recognized him right away.

When I saw my Dad, dressed in my Mum's Red coat, with cotton wool round the Hood, placing my presents round the bottom of my bed and giggling, in the only the way my Dad could giggle! That's when I stopped believing in Father Christmas.
Merry Christmas. x

I was about 9 or 10 and I found all my Christmas presents unwrapped and hidden in the closet. I figured it out from there.
