removed the a/c and power steering, added headers, edelbrock performer intake and 600 cfm card, pertronix ignition with 8mm wires and blaster 2 coil? Stock gears and trans. I am looking for 250-275 hp.........Need to run 8.5-9.0 in the 1/8 mile........any suggestions?

you might be on the low side of that by 1965 hp ratings, but real horse power comes from the cam and heads, the 65 289 made 271 hp with hipo cam and solids...

if you want to run 8.5/9.0 in the eighth, get a set of heads that flow (production Ford heads SUCK), a cam with about 230 duration @ .050 lift, and an RPM Air Gap intake.

Oh yeah, you need to run AT LEAST a 3.50 gear in the rear also, stock gears are most likely 2.73. The stock 8" will hold up just fine.

That's about the jist of my FRPP 340hp crate motor and my 67 runs 9.0, but then again, that's at 4000' too.

put on a electric water pump. that will give you 5 to 6 more horses. When you add the headers make sure that you run two exhaust pipes and put a set of glass packs on them. the engine needs some back pressure but not much. Tare out anything not of importance like window motors back seat passenger seat. that will make you lighter and faster in the 1/8 mile
