well it just is. any day can arbitrarily be a holiday. why is martin luther king jr day a holiday? cause we think he was great. how about presidnets day? we like presidnets and we like time off. there is no reason i guess. oh no i got it.. its so that all the last minute shoppers spend her money on big ticket items at walgreens - the only store that stays open regular hours on christmas eve ;)
