I'm with Elmer on this one, Max Kellerman is very knowledgeable about boxing but he is such a idiot sometimes, analysts are supposed to be professional when doing there jobs and he isn't, when "his" fighter loses or is losing a fight, he somehow manages to come up with a reason on why they lost than he goes and ask's the winner, "Do you really think you won this fight?" i dont remember who he asked that too after a fight but it was at that moment i realized he should just stick to what he knows and being an analyst isn't one of them, he also tries to go against others with more knowledge and actual in-ring experience than him, he's almost always trying to contradict Emanuel Stewart.

As for Larry Merchant, to me he is somewhat of a joke as an analyst, i believe HBO just has him around to cause/start controversy, and that is what people like, contoversy, but if i had to absolutely choose one, i'd go with Merchant because at least when he speaks nonsense, i can just blame it on him being drunk.

Larry Merchant. Max Kellerman sounds like Kermit the Frog.

If I had to pick, I would go with Kellerman. I think Merchant has become too cynical about the sport. If he doesn't see exactly what he thinks he should see, then he thinks the boxing world is about to cave in. I don't like his smug attitude with many of the boxers as well.

Kellerman brings a fresher face to the business and he does possess good boxing knowledge.

Neither one, however, holds a candle to either Al Bernstein, Teddy Atlas or Rich Marotta. They are the best in the business.

Merchant by far. Kellerman is an argument waiting to happen.
His constant negative comments is tiresome, maybe he should throw a few punches before he engages his mouth. But the worst is Jim lampley. He always seems to be watching a different fight then everyone else. Not to mention the punches he sees that even the camera doesn't catch. Merchant is a boxing fan's announcer, he speaks to the masses while Kellerman speaks to himself. Kellerman yells, he does not announce.

Kellerman.....HANDS DOWN.....In my opinion; Merchant & Howard Cosell were the 2 worst announcers/ analysts of all time. Kellerman is OK----Emanuel Steward & Teddy Atlas are great + the best of all time was Don Dunphy.---Larry Merchant always conducted the most insipid interviews where you actually felt embarassed for the fighter Larry was interviewing.----Larry's ongoing dementia causes him to pause even more often & for longer pauses in his increasingly embarrasing interviews & commentaries.Larry's insight & analysis of boxing could fit into a thimble as evidenced in that after Larry makes his usual wrong comment re: , for example, what a fighter is doing in the Ring..Emanuel usually comes to the rescue by correcting Larry by saying things like " What he really needs to do is double up on his jab & follow that with a right hook ".----- I saw Larry do a post-fight commentary this year when, all of a sudden , Larry launched into a completely unrelated story about how he had taken his wife to see a movie that afternoon about Edith Piaf. Larry made one brief comment about how Piaf had been married to Middleweight Champ Marcel Cerdan. After this comment Larry went on ad infinitium as to how Piaf was the Little Sparrow & how reknowned she was as a singer & how this movie was a great foreign film depecting Piaf's struggles in life which Larry compared to struggles in the Ring ???-----My point is ....I hope that you are now as confused as I was & usually am after Larry starts to engage in his pre & post fight babble ???

Merchant is....

Kellerman is good behind a desk, giving his opinions and comments like he did on ESPN in a Studio. His ringside comments however are a bit bland and not very thoughtful...

Merchant is a much better ringside observer. He will say whatever is on his mind, calling the fight like it is and give a pretty good interview at the end. If I had my choice I would pick Merchant for his keeping it real additude....

Kellerman...a young cat who's really knowledgable and has a passion for the sport. ESPN made a mistake by letting him go...and Fox Sports screwed up by allowing him to do a show that was a clone of Around The Horn.

Gee, do i have to pick? Why not ask me which smells better, dog poo or cow poo? Both men are virtually useless in the sport of boxing. You can take anyone from this board and they can do just as good a job as Kellerman or Merchant. Both these guys, I have no idea why they are employed, doing what they are doing. I'll do it at half the salary. I'd do it for free if i can sit ringside.

Merchant. Kellerman is always looking for controversy where there is none.

Larry Merchant is a "personality". Kellerman
has much more "insider" knowledge. Merchant
has upset more than one colleague because
of his "Know It All" attitude.
