Your serious ? why stop at 5 ? you think average joe blow could just pick up a rifle and go fight ?

Physical training... Necessary because not eveyone is in good shape and if you've ever run around in the sand or lifted heavy objects all day, you can't just show up and wus out.

Familiarity with weapons... Necessary because you don't have the luxury of having a weapons depot to trade in a malfunctioned gun for a new one. You have to keep it clean, break it down, oil it up, and keep it fit for a fire fight.

Gear Familiarity ... We had 30 seconds to get gas masks on which included checking for a tight seal. Yes..there are agents out there that will kill you or mess you up if you don't have your mask on fast. Which means you need to know how to put in and change the filters, how to maintenance it, and keep it with you at times of hich Moc levels.

Standard practices of getting use to long watch's including adverse enviormental conditions. You need to keep logs, keep watch, stand in harms way at your post regardless as to what might happen. Practice makes perfect as the old saying goes.

Then there's target practice....what good is a gun if you can't hit jack. Practice makes perfect again.

Discipline dove tails into alot as well. If you can't work together as a team, then your pretty useless. you not only might not help the team out but you might even hamper or endanger them. Civilians don't have alot of discipline..(in general) and its needed to get your mind use to not only doing the job, but doing it right, without excuses and work well with others during arduous situations.

Shock treatment is also something that you need to be exposed to. Whether its a firefighting class for Navy to live fire obstical course for infantry, it wakes you up to the world that you will be participating in. It heightens your senses to be always looking around, always alert and on guard.

Emergency training, whether its chemical attack, irregularities while on watch or problems in the barracks, it gets you use to using your chain of command and practice at how to handle situations so when it happens for real , you won't mess up.....since messing up can cost lives.

It also fleshes out the weak, if you can't handle the little stress you'll get from the demands of bootcamp, you can't handle day to day living in the military much less the stress of combat.

Is that enough ? I could go on all day.

However, once you start playing, you have to build on those basics on the fly.
