My 2003 Ford Expedition just began having an issue with the 4x4 today.

It happens that the 4High & 4Low range lights began blinking upon startup and about every 30 seconds while driving. In addition to that the 4x4 doesn't engage, Whether if I put it in A4WD, 4High, or 4Low, I get now response by the truck or the indicator on the Cluster.

It worked like a charm for the past 2 weeks since we've had snow/ice. Right now, I'ts only working as 2WD.

I know what you mean about the vacuum engaging front wheel hubs, but it's something electrical. It's like the 4x4 switch is dead because it doesn't do anything.

It's not the 4x4 motor. I came with a light tester ( u know that tool with a light on top that verifies if there's power) It turns out there is no power coming or going to the 4x4 switch. Nor is there any power connecting to the 4x4 transfer motor. The fuse/relay delivers power. I begin to believe it's a computer related issue. I'll just go to ford or a diagnostics center just so they pinpoint the exact problem.

No way in heck will I let ford fix it, I know a place where to get computers cheap if thats what it turns out to be.

Did u check the Vacuum lines going to the transfer case or the front axle ?

Sounds like Ford still hasn't fixed their damn electronic 4WD problems. Most likely your actuator motor on the transfer case has got wet (go figure) and needs replaced. Yeah, Ford can't figure out why the actuator's get wet under the vehicle, and still haven't fixed the problem.

Any 4WD issue though is going to cost lots of $$$ to repair.
