I just got a ps3 and was wondering if the different vehicles actually matter. There are several different ones to choose in each category such as different bikes, but do the bikes have different benefits? are there certain vehicles in each category that are better than the others?

They operate differently. A motorcycle might be faster, but it can't make tight turns like some of the heavier vehicles. The heavy vehicles can't travel as fast as some of the light cars, but since it has a heavier mass, it can make tight turns.

Everyone gave you pretty good answers, but they weren't quite detailed enough.

The Mudpluggers, and Big Rigs have the best traction in mud and most other surfaces, but they are a little bit slower.

The Rally Cars have good traction on flat paved surfaces and they are the fastest. They don't have good traction on sand and dirt.

The Dirtbikes and ATV's are fast but they have pretty low traction on sand and dirt, they have good traction on flat paved surfaces, and they don't very low traction in the mud.

The Buggy's have good traction on sand, dirt, and paved surfaces. And they have little traction on mud. The Buggy's have an average speed.

The description of the cars and the advantages of each of them are in the manual that came with the game.
