dirty cats? she has over 20 indoor cats, and she can't keep up with them....we go out in public and people stare and sniff,, and it's getting VERY embarrasing. I have 2 cats,,, but I keep their boxes clean. I love her,,, and don't want to hurt her feelings. she has O.C.D. and is a cat collector. her house is so dirty, and gross. I have offerd to help out with all kitty's but she says NO WAY... i have not seen her home in almost 10 years.

The only way is to just be up front about it. Tell her the odor is in her clothing and that she's got a very strong smell even outdoors. If you just beat around the bush she won't take you serious, but if you're up front about a fact, then it's more likely to register that something is a real problem.

If you haven't seen the inside of her house in that long, and she smells like dirty cats.....her house is probably overrun with cat feces! You might explain to her that if the neighbors can smell the odor that's coming from her house, that one/more of them may "turn her in" to the "humane police"! So, if she doesn't want THEM to come and REMOVE all of the cats, she'd better try to get her home cleaned up. That situation is unhealthy for HER AND THE CATS!!! I watch Animal Precinct on tv....and they REMOVE cats from people's homes when they're hoaders/can't take care of themselves OR their cats. Good luck getting her to listen and comply.........................

That's a tough one.
I sympathathize. I once knew some people in high school whose parents never took their trash out ( it filled several rooms to the ceiling) and stored it all over the house.
They smelled like garbage and the house was enough to make you gag at first breath.
All I can suggest is ...
Be strong,
Be brave,
Do what has to be done (for you and the person)
Say what you mean.
DON'T say it mean!
They may get upset but they will soon figure that what you say is only out of concern and in their best interest.

offer to help out with the litterboxes. god, 20 cats and you're not helping her???!!! tell her that having 20 cats is not healthy for a human being, and that she should either give away some of them, or get a whole work force to help her clean up. google- "danger of having lots of cats", print out results, and give it to her.

If she is your best friend, she will understand when you sit her down and tell her. No need to be cruel, just approach it from a gentle standpoint. If being to the point does not work, I would suggest just backing off from spending time with her. When she calls to ask why, explain it again and gauge her reaction. If she gets belligerent, chances are nothing will change....if not, there is hope.

Honesty is the best policy, but it probably won't change anything.
I am a cat lover, but 20 is just crazy. Can she really give them all the attention they need?

You are her friend. Friends can't always worry about hurting feelings, they have to worry about honesty. You would be doing your friend a favor to let her know this.

You may have to report her to animal control as sad as this is. She has a disease of sorts and will not stop collecting. It is unhealthy and unsanitary for her and the cats.
If there is an embarrassing odor, just tell her about your observations.
