Daughter had ears pierced at age of 10. It seems they are starting to tear down the skin, she has worn posts or very light danglies..... I am thinking the gal who pierced should have gone a bit higher... regardles, it appears to be creating a verticle drop in her ear opening. No problem with infections etc... but noteably a proplem in appearance..

so, I am thinking she needs to not wear any, let them heal up and re-do it a year from now or what ever you gals suggest.
How long does it take to heal closed?
What do you suggest?

uhh... yea... if you can't figure out my ignorance in the subject... I am the dad.

Is the "verticle drop" in her ear above or below the position of the earring?

Ear piercings actually stretch themselves quite easily under the weight of constant earring wearing. Ever notice on older ladies who have had their ears pierced for many years, the piercing itself is elongated? Its from constantly wearing earrings and the weight, even if they are light, gravity still works its magic.

If she has had them for a year, she should be able to go without wearing earrings at night with no problems. Typically normal ear lobe piercings will stay open even if not wearing earrings for a few days, in some people even weeks or months.

Try keeping the earrings out at night, and if she doesn't have trouble getting them back in in the morning, let her go a full day without them in. Give her lobes a break occassionally and the problem should stop.

If there is a vertical drop in her ear opening, do not be overly surprised if an earring finishes the tissue failure and just cuts its way through the rest of the earlobe, dropping free. That happened to my daughter.
