Life is really Hell on Earth at home. It's a very unhealthy environment and I am extremely depressed here. I just want to get away and enjoy life. I have three jobs as a lifeguard and work many hours. If I left, I'd let down my employers and I'd feel so bad. I have no friends here however, and I'm really lonely. It's mostly because since their were a lot of family problems, I've only been able to go to night school. I just want to pack my things up and move to Florida. It's my dream to become a scuba instructor. Do I follow the dream or do I Stick to the practical? It's such a huge decision, and honestly I'm so scared. The urge to leave is so great I'll pack and unpack atleast once a week. This may sound ignorant, but I have no drive to even graduate at this moment. I can just get a G.E.D anywhere. Any advice? Has anyone else moved out without graduating? I know most people regret it..

If you dont graduate high school you are totally screwed.....there are tons of people who graduate high school and don't go on to college and they can't even get a good job. UNless you want to flip burgers for the rest of your life, I'd suggest the MINIMUM of graduating high school. You're half way through already.....why quit now?

It sounds like you have enough work experience to find a job in Florida since you have 3 jobs. It also sounds like you are quite mature for being 18 and working and going to school, especially with all that is going on in your life. If you are lonely and your family life is bad, follow your dreams. Dreams are the beginning of what could be a future career and your dreams are not out of the realm of reality. You have the right to enjoy your life and I would hate to see the life at home affect your studies where you end up not finishing your schooling. You said you have no friends, but are worried about upsetting your employers. I do truly believe that they would want to see happiness in your life. I would explain what you feel necessary to your employers and follow what you feel is the best decision for you since it is your life. Too many of us stick to the practical and it sounds like you have a great plan for your future. Many people your age are too busy partying and don't care about their future. I don't want to be the one to push you to make a decision, but it does seem this is something that you have almost done already. All I can say is follow your heart's desire. An unhealthy environment isn't good for you. I moved out at 17 and finished my grade 12 on my own in a different city. I am 43 now, married with a wonderful 7 year old daughter and do not regret making the move. I wish you the best and you can graduate anywhere. I did. Happy Holidays.

If its really that bad then i'd say get out. I'd offer you a place to stay cuz i'm just that cool but right now i'm in the middle of renovating my house so its a bad time for me. =( I'd say if you don't have that long then finish school if you can though, its easier than getting a GED from what I hear. Theres not cheating or shortcuts on your GED, just remember that. Thats the only way I made it through high school was cheating and short cuts! Ha! Do you have a myspace? Mine is www.myspace.com/nate0104 if you wanna talk more. I'll be your friend. I'm broke but can definately offer moral support and advice. SO I wish you the best and always follow your dreams. You might discover moving to florida is a mistake but its a mistake that only you can make and learn from. If not your life might be filled with a lot of "what ifs" and thats never good. I thought of moving to Cali but then decided I love it here in Oklahoma, the people are very nice here. You should move here. Its a great state and no we don't drive covered wagons. Ha. SO anyways I wish you the best but just make sure you have somewhere to go when you move. Think ahead a little. Hope this helped! =nate

First of all, life is hard for everyone. you are not alone in feeling this way. Is there anyone nearby that you can stay with until you graduate? Getting a high school diploma is only the first step to success in life. A GED only says that you dropped out of school and then later decided that you needed the diploma to be what you really wanted to be. If you want to be a scuba instructor, you have to take classes and pass exams, you will also need to update your certification throughout your career. if you can't finish high school, what kind of scuba instructor will you turn out to be????????? I am 39 years old, a high school and college graduate. Neither of my two brothers graduated nor did either of my parents. I have much more success in my career than they could possibly expect with their education. There will be plenty of time later in life to do all the things that you want to and need to do. For now, get your diploma and sow the world that you mean business. Maybe you can turn your future SCUBA experience into a thriving business with your own staff of instructors. Aim high, plan ahead, and pay your dues.

jSounds like you are very very close to graduating though -- why would you want to throw that away? First off, all applications for jobs ask if you have a GED or a diploma and MOST places still won't hire if it's just a GED....so give it some serious thought. Try to be patient and deal with what you have to for a SHORT amount of time -- grauduate and then move. Seriously, that is the best advice I can give you. I did graduate, worked all my life and still have been laid been laid off on many occasions -- but even these jobs, you won't be hired without a diploma.

I joined the Navy after dropping out twice. If I had to do it over again I would have graduated just for the added opportunities. My advise to you is live your dream. If you don't, you might have regrets down the road, and people who have regrets have a very unhappy life. Also, what you dream for today, might be different than what you might dream in the future. A diploma carries a lot more weight than a GED. I can't blame for wanting to go to Florida, but cover yourass someway. Good Luck!

I am sorry to hear about your home life. When do you graduate? Do you have other relatives or friends you can stay with until you graduate? If you graduate in 2008, it seems like it would be better to stay in school, but get out of your environment, if that is possible. I commend you on your dedication to get out and follow your dreams. It is okay to be scared. It makes you think about all the options.

My boyfriend had such a bad time in school, he skipped out his senior year and got his GED and is really doing well. He went to technical school and now has a great job. You can do it if you set your mind to it. Whatever happens, my prayers are with you. God Bless you and Have a Merry Christmas. May the year of 2008 be one of great changes and may you be happy and prosperous. God Bless you. Hugs to you.

I know how that feels. The truth is that if you leave and work hard to get your GED, and go to college, it's worth it, cause no matter what your college degree will be what really matters. I never ever tell anyone that I have a GED, especially employers, they don't even ask cause I have a college degree. I was "forced" out on my own, and it was hard, and it sucked, but I prefered to be alone than to be in that hell. So if that's what you really want to do, then do it, but there are some benefits to finishing high school. You don't have to take remedial classes in college, and you get a diploma. Are you in your senior year? You only have a few more months to go, you think about it, can you hang on a little longer? Cause trying to get your GED and working is hard, instead you could finish, work in the day and go to college at night, or visa versa, it's easier to schedule college classes than classes for GED.

You can still move out without moving to Florida. Since you have 3 jobs you can probably afford to rent your own apartment near your work. That will get you away from your current environment which sounds like the source of your problems and at the same time, will allow you to stay at your current jobs and continue your schooling.

You can still continue school until you graduate, keep your jobs, and be away from your family. I think living on your own will help you grow and liberate you. You can do what you want and hopefully you'll be happier.

I'm nineteen and I have been moved out for almost a year. I have learned SO much about myself and I feel great. However, I am unhappy WHERE I live (Albany, NY) and I'm picking up and moving to Colorado to pursue my dream as well! I think you should absolutely pick up and move, why not? You're only wasting your life by doing what you're "supposed" to do. You only live once, live it as you want to! I did "continuing education" at my local community college, which is doing senior year at the college instead of High School! It was so much fun and well-worth the $3,000. I didn't have to deal with high school drama bullshit but I still got to graduate with a regular state diploma! You can do it at any high school. Good Luck!!!!
