Matt 10:34, Jesus said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
(36) "And a man's foes shall be they of his own household".
BUT Luke 2:14, says, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men".
Could Luke 2:14 refer to the Peace made by Christ between fallen mankind and his creater, rather than between men?
2nd Corinthians 5:18-19, "And all things are of God, who HATH reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, RECONCILING THE WORLD UNTO HIMSELF, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation".
Yes, that is peace on earth, good will toward men!!! The gospel of the good news.
What do you think??

Eventually, but first and foremost he came to pay for our sins. So don't let anyone call you sinner or make you feel bad about yourself. Jesus paid for EVERYONE'S sins, both believer and nonbeliever. Hell is not for humans.

The peace comes downward from God.
Joh 3:17-19 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Joh 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Christ said He did not come to bring peace but a sword, this sword was not a physical nor violent sword, what he was talking about was a type of division to where basically he was saying to not put anyone or anything above him. He was not saying he wanted to divide family's but was speaking in a realistic sense that if you decide to give your life to him, people will turn against you and sometimes your own loved ones will.
( I did not come to judge the world, but to save it)

That prayer begins "Our father" which means all mankind has the same spiritual source....ALL mankind....and if we were to realize that we are all the same - we have the same needs, wants, etc, then we would realize we are the same substance which is of spirit in a body - and then we would treat each other with the same love, tolerance, honor and compassion that we wish for ourselves - then we would find peace on earth.
What Christ taught was the "how" of how to get to that realization.

The first verse u mentioned means that those who believed in Jesus became enemies to their families who hate him\her being converted to Christianity.
The second verse u mentioned means that when Jesus came , He brought peace. There r three kinds of peace: Peace btween man and God, peace between man and other, and peace inside humans( in your heart).
The other verses have the same meaning as the first two.
Good Luck!!

I'm under the impression Jesus came to bring salvation. You want a good, thought-provoking read? Try Philip Yancy's The Jesus I Never Knew. It gives you historic cultural background into his life and times. For a Jew to follow him was to reject the culture of their religion ... to live in faith rather than the law.

Well, that was part of the plan. The other and more important aspect of his appearance, was to atone for our sins. Unfortunately, neither one of those things happened. Look at the way the world is today, and you'll know what I mean.

Christ knew there was to be no peace on earth and good will towards man because of man's hatred for each other so He came to die for our sins.

The real meaning of Christmas:
We read in God's Holy Law-Book the Bible in Isaiah 42:5-9 Thus saith God JAHWEH, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I JAHWEH have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am JAHWEH: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
