The largest species of catfish is the Silurus glanis, or wels, which has been reported up to 16 feet 8 in. at 730lbs., but it is only found in Europe. As far as in the U.S. Blue cat can get around 5 feet and weigh over 120 lbs and the Flathead can get to almost 5 feet long and weigh over 120 lbs.

Fish tales always grow as time goes on. I would imagine that you could catch a giant cat in a river. They do live for a long time and will grow as time goes on. But, 6 ft. is highly unlikely. The largest US record I think is a blue cat caught in Lake Texoma around 121 lbs. and I'm sure there are bigger ones out there.. just haven't been caught. Down here on the Bayou's we usually catch the big flatheads on set lines. Have seen them up to 85 lbs.. but they weren't 6 ft. long.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no place in the united states, that produces catfish 6' long.
the record Flathead & blue cats, weighed in at 123.9 # & 124 # respectfully.
The world record, for a mekong catfish , that was caught in Thailand, in 2005. The fish was 9' long & weighed 646 #
